Apple Gets 120,000 iPad Pre-Orders on Day 1
Posted by Chris Lansdell on 03.15.2010

Apple's iPad became available for pre-order on Friday and sold, over 120,000 iPads in the first day.

According to analyst Victor Castroll of Valcent Financial Group:

"Apple has been able to generate over $75 million in revenue in one day on a product that 99.9% of purchasers haven't touched or for that matter, even seen in person."

According to analyst Daniel Tello however, sales fell off "dramatically" over the weekend to about 1,000 per hour for Saturday and Sunday...still not too shabby.

Have you pre-ordered yours?

"...generate over $75 million in revenue in one day on a product that 99.9% of purchasers haven't touched or for that matter, even seen in person."

Pretty much sums up people who by Apple products religiously!

Doesn't it do less than a netbook? Honestly can Apple just put an i in front of anything, and it will sell?

What's the deal with knocking on Apple? Wouldn't a Sheep own a PC, like the majority of ppl?

Apple hasn't even been popular for a decade. I remember in school, graduated 03 so not that old yet, we had apple's and you couldn't do shit on them cuz everything was made for a PC.

Apple makes a relible product that doesn't get all the viruses of a PC. Other than being pricey seems quite nice now with things being tailored to the Apple.

Protip: apple doesn't get viruses because no one makes a virus for apple computers. The majority uses PC so why would hackers waste time creating a virus to reach a small percentage?
Apple desktops are also insanely overpriced. You can build a PC with the same specs as any apple desktop and it will cost you nearly half the amount.

People buy apple products because of the name and reputation that comes with them, not because of the actual product.

Which is bullshit of course.

I love how when an Apple breaks down it becomes a paperweight...

I also love how iTunes destroys system resources when being used with Windows.

Steve Jobs sure does make a quality product there.

Apple can shit out an iCrap and people will buy it. They are relying on Iphone's name too much that it may hurt them. Seriously, the Ipad is a limited expensive device that asks "Why not just get a Netbook for half the price and 1000x more features?"

Oh great, now I have to read about 2612331 finance articles on how the recession is over because consumer spending is up on luxury items, with the ipad mentioned.

You know what maybe we do not have a recession after all, if idiots continue to pay high cell phone bills and buy new ipods every month and now these ipads. I still see so much advertising for this junk so people somehow are scraping the money together for these things that aren't necessary at all.

There's also that commercial that tells me most people don't use a cell phone just to place and receive phone calls.

Except that the home built machine can't run OSX and if something goes wrong, you have to figure out what it was yourself and then deal with the hassles of buying new, tracking down the manufactures of your parts, and getting a replacement/ reimbursement from them.... all which could take weeks (if you're lucky enough to get them to help you at all).

I'd rather pay a little more, know that I never have to worry about hackers or viruses, and know that if something were to go wrong, I could bring it to one of their stores and get it back within 2-3 days (although usually same day) no questions asked.

For the few PC games that aren't out for OSX I can simply reboot into any flavor of Windows.

Of course, with that said- I've been using Apple products religiously for the past 15 years and I don't get the hype over the iPad. It's an oversized iPhone that can't make calls, doesn't have a camera on it, and can't multitask. No thanks.

Throw 2 video cameras on it (one on front for video conferencing and one on back so you could use the screen as a viewfinder), add telephone usability (with both speakerphone and bluetooth), and the ability to do more then 1-2 things at once and it MIGHT be worth it's asking price.

Otherwise, I'll have to carry both my iPhone and iBook anyway...

Apple: Proving if you polish a turn and wear trendy black turtlenecks and trendy black glasses, blind Apple fans will buy it in droves.

---------

No. People use PC's because it's overwhelmingly the most common platform. Apple fans are cultists. They blindly buy anything with an apple logo on it.

...and PC users would be the sheep for buying something just because it's the most common, not because it runs better.
