Reggie Fils-Aime Shoots The Breeze
Posted by Chad Alan on 03.17.2010

Reggie Fils-Aime, President of Nintendo of America, is keeping himself in the gaming press lately by talking about his competition and why he's not worried. Recently in an Industry Gamers interview, Mr. Fils-Aime gave his thoughts about Sony's new motion controller, the Move. While admitting that it seems interesting as a new product, he does not see the reason to spend at least $400 to purchase a new PS3 system and the Move itself.

"That's the piece that to me is very interesting. So I'm a consumer and I'm having a great experience with my Wii. And we know that's the case – we look at the software that's being purchased. Consumers love the Wii. What's going to motivate them to spend minimally $300 for a new [PS3] system, plus minimally $100 for the Move motion bundle? So [as a consumer] now I'm into this for $400 and I still have to spend money on software. What's going to motivate me to do that?"

I'd say he brings up a very good point, especially if you already have a Wii and are enjoying it because of the motion control features.

In the Interview he goes on to talk about how the criticized price point of the new DSi XL is set just right according to sales in Japan. I just hope he remembers, this is not Japan. Another interesting topic that was brought up is the trend of social gaming such as Zynga's Farmville and many other games on social networking sites that we all tend to play instead of paying attention at work. It depends on the gamer you are. The nintendo Wii is certainly not a replacement for xbox or ps3, if you don't have an hd tv or you are not interested too much in online gaming, then ur best bet is the wii. Otherwise that extra jump in price is totally worth it, esp for the ps3 exclusives (or the xbox exclusives)

The motivation would be in whether or not you like PS3 games or Wii games more. Easy as that. Not everyone has a Wii or PS3.
