Mass Effect 2 Official For PlayStation 3
Posted by Jeffrey Harris on 08.17.2010
One of the highest rated games of the year is coming to PS3, finally.
BioWare announced today at GamesCom that Mass Effect 2 is being released to the PS3 in January of 2011. The PS3 edition will feature the full Mass Effect 2 game and hours of bonus content as well.
Mass Effect 2 on the Xbox 360 and PC has received over 70 perfect scores from various media outlets including the Associated Press, Eurogamer, MSNBC.com, G4TV, and the LA Times. It is the highest rated game in the 15 year history of Bioware and the 28 year history of EA.

Only problem is without ME1 as well the story is rather generic. It's the important of choices from ME1 that makes the story feel alive and makes you actually feel like Commander Sheppard.

Yeah, this isn't like Final Fantasy XIII on Xbox 360 as each FF game is different. This would be like releasing God of War III for 360 without the first two games, doesn't make much sense.

Without ME1 this is gonna suck. Especially if they keep the default settings from the 360 (Wrex is dead, Renegade Sheperd, etc)
I mean why not bundle them together at least?

I know you can play ME2 without useing a save from the first one, but you miss so much backstory and detail that it really does half ass the whole experiance

I agree with the rest of you, but I doubt some of the PS3 gamers will really care about missing out on ME1

Well I suppose they could have you spend the first 20 minutes answering questions that only make sense if you played ME1.

"I mean why not bundle them together at least?"
Because ME1 was published by Microsoft, ME2 by EA. Microsoft isn't going to hand over a game it controls publishing rights to its chief competitor in console gaming, and they won't let the PS3 have it either.

But what happened to the exclusivity

Exclusivity? This is EA we're talking about :)

Wow! I always thought Ninja Gaiden Sigma 1 & 2 was released for the PS3. Deimos probably never heard of either game.

"Wow! I always thought Ninja Gaiden Sigma 1 & 2 was released for the PS3. Deimos probably never heard of either game."
Um.. yeah I have. The publisher for both those games were Tecmo, not Microsoft.
My point was that ME1's publisher was Microsoft. Meaning that what systems it gets published on is determined by Microsoft, so I have no idea what sort of analogy you were trying to make.
Honestly I'm thrilled that the PS3 is getting ME2, I think that game exclusivity gets rather ridiculous at times and as a huge Mass Effect fan I'd love to share the joys. My point was that Microsoft isn't going to give a direct competitor in the console business one of the exclusives that they themselves own sole publishing rights to.
