Could the PS4 be on the way?
Sony has put an end to production of the Playstation 2 in Japan. Famitsu reports that the company has announced that it will not provide any more of the consoles after existing stock sells out, though some developers will continue to produce software for it. Production in other territories is expected to be halted in the near future.
The system first launched in Japan in 2000 and has sold over 150 million units during its lifecycle. The end of the console has given rise to rumors that Sony is shifting its resources toward development of the Playstation 4. The PS4 is said to be currently under development with a codename of Thebes.
