Playstation 2 Discontinued Worldwide

More credence to the PS4 rumors...
Sony has confirmed that the PlayStation 2 has been officially discontinued. The Guardian reports that Sony has confirmed that it is no longer making the console in any territory after reports came out from Japan noting that production had stopped there. The only units left to be sold as new are those already in storage and shops, though a few developers will continue making software for the console.
The move gives credence to rumors that Sony is moving resources toward the development of the PS4. That system is said to be in development under the codename "Thebes." The PS2 is the bestselling home console of all time with over 150 million units sold during its life cycle.
