Microsoft Next-Gen Xbox Said to Feature Skype Instead of Live Voice Chat
Posted by Jeffrey Harris on 01.16.2013

CVG reports that a source claims that Skype will serve as the default chat service for the Xbox 360 successor, rumored to be unveiled this year at E3.

The new Xbox would integrate Skype support rather than Xbox Live voice chat. The source stated, "You might jump to the conclusion that we'll see asynchronous voice and video messages in next-gen Xbox Live." Microsoft previously acquired Skype in 2011 for $8.5 billion and is reported to start making it their default chat service on all platforms.

Microsoft also confirmed that they are shutting down Windows Live messenger in March and will migrate all their users over to Skype.
