Nintendo Declares 2013 The Year Of Luigi
Posted by Joseph Lee on 02.14.2013

Coming Soon reports that Nintendo has announced a huge list of games for the Wii U and 3DS today. They've also declared 2013 the "Year of Luigi".

They said in the press release: "After decades of playing second fiddle to the No. 1 video game hero, Luigi is getting some love from Nintendo. Nintendo has named 2013 the "Year of Luigi," thanks to the numerous appearances that Mario's timid, green-clad twin brother will be making in games this year.

Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America's president and COO, said: "Luigi is just the green tip of the iceberg of all the great news we have to share with Nintendo fans this year and beyond. We're showing how Nintendo 3DS and Wii U continue to be a source of fun, entertainment and great surprises."

The games include:

Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon: This game will be released on March 24 for the 3DS. It will include multiplayer modes in addition to the previously revealed Hunter Mode. 3DS systems can team up with local wireless, Download Play or connect over the Internet "to escape each floor within the time limit in Rush Mode and search for the hidden ghost dogs in Polterpup Mode". Up to four game cards may be required.

Mario & Luigi: Dream Team: This game will be released for the 3DS in the summer, and is the latest of the Mario and Luigi role-playing series. The game takes place in the mind of a sleeping Luigi, who is a powerful and brave hero in his dreams.

New Super Luigi U: This will be DLC for New Super Mario Bros U for the Wii U. It provides alternate versions of the game's over 80 stages. Players can switch freely between the New Super Luigi U and New Super Mario Bros. U. The Luigi-focused stages will be available for purchase as a single download.

Mario Golf: World Tour: The new 3DS game will feature Luigi as a playable character along with other Mushroom Kingdom residents. It will be released in the summer.

Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D: The Wii game is getting a 3D version on the 3DS this summer. You can watch a 3D video in the Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf: This 3DS game will be released on June 9 in North America. It's called the "definitive version of Animal Crossing". It contains new features and improvements in the entire game, including "new species of animal neighbors, new ways to customize your house and town, and a new main street shopping area and model home showcase."

Style Savvy: Trendsetters: Trendsetters will get the Gracie Grace line of clothes, inspired by the giraffe in the Animal Crossing series. Owners of the game can download free clothes via SpotPass. Other fashions will arrive soon, including in-game fashions based on the Japanese brand Liz Lisa.

LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins: This game is a prequel to the Wii U game and will be available on the 3DS on April 21. It follows the first case of rookie cop Chase McCain.

Those who have already bought the map pack can now access the new map to get a new playable character named Michaiah and "a special skill that will increase all of a character's stats by two points." The Golden Gaffe map is the first in a second set of three, also available for $2.50. Players will battle against wealthy enemies, which is useful for earning gold.
