But Square Enix was still disappointed...
Tomb Raider may Tomb Raider's sales as "weak", but it is still the strongest start to any game in the franchise yet. Digital Spy reports that Crystal Dynamics head Darrell Gallagher was at the 2013 GDC and said that the freshly-released reboot of the Lara Croft franchise has outsold any of the previous games in its first week.
"It's been the biggest week one sales in franchise history, and we're only a few weeks into that launch right now, and it's been the biggest opening so far in 2013," said Gallagher. "So, we're happy with the outcome. It's certainly in a place where we feel like we're on the road to achieving everything we wanted to."
The game sold 3.4 million copies in its three weeks of release so far, though it was still named among titles in Square Enix's North American games that sold less than anticipated and contributed to the departure of company president Yoichi Wada.
