It didn't help the movie...
In an interview with Gamer Hub (via IGN) J.J. said he was disappointed with Digital Extremes' Star Trek game, which he said "without question didn't help the movie, and arguably hurt it."
He said: "The last game, which was obviously a big disappointment to me, was something that we were actually involved in at the very beginning...and then we sort of realized that it was not going in a place that we were going to get what we wanted. So we dropped out and they continued to do it despite…y'know."
The director will not work on Star Trek 3, but hopes to see adaptations of any kind exist "on its own terms," because "a lot of times these sort of exist as ancillary products, in which case they will suck."
He also said that he was involved in "a couple projects with Valve," which includes Portal and Half-Life films. He's also working on a game idea that he hopes to bring in Valve on.
