Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment Announces New Version Of Gauntlet
Posted by Joseph Lee on 03.17.2014

Coming Soon reports that Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has announced a reboot of the dungeon crawler Gauntlet, which will now be an action RPG. It will be released this summer on Steam for PC, with full support of SteamOS and the Steam Machines that are shipping in the second half of the year. It will be part of the launch of the WB Games Vault, a direct-to-digital service that gives paid games based on Warner Bros. and Midway Games, along with original content, on multiple digital platforms.

David Haddad, Senior Vice President of Digital Games for Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, said: "With 'Gauntlet' we combined the arcade style of the original game with an entirely new look and feature set that includes emergent, local and online four-player gameplay. 'Gauntlet' will be the first title in the WB Games Vault portfolio, which will provide us with an opportunity to access emerging talent within the game development community and match unique skills and experience with our extensive library of properties."

The game was developed by Arrowhead Game Studios. It updates past titles but stays "true to the brand's legendary format". There are four fantasy-based characters: Warrior, Wizard, Valkyrie or Elf. Each has its own strengths and weaknesses. The Warrior does more melee combat damage, the Wizard has more powerful magic, the Valkyrie has the most armor and the Elf is the fastest.

Johan Pilestedt, CEO of Arrowhead, added: "To us at Arrowhead, 'Gauntlet' is one of the most defining games from our childhoods, and it's amazing to be able to work with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment on a brand new version. 'Gauntlet' is one of the original and best known video game properties and we are looking forward to creating a fresh, yet true to the original, take on a multiplayer masterpiece."

When a character is selected, the game takes place in several dungeons. The goal is to kill the evil creatures and complete challenges. There are special items in each dungeon which can heal the player, unlock doors, and aid the character with magical relics to survive longer. The enemies include ghosts, grunts, demons, spiders, sorcerers and skeleton warriors.
