The controller will cost $39.99 and the average price of games will be $1.85, with some free-to-play titles available.
Video streaming will include not injust Amazon Instant video but Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, and WatchESPN. You can also listen to music on Pandora, iHeartRadio, and your Amazon library. There will be the option to look at photos taken with your smart phone thanks to Amazon's Cloud Drive app.
Amazon has said the problem wth current set-top boxes (Roku, Apple TV, Chromecast) are the search methods, performance and closed ecosystems. They will address this by handling hardware and software. The Fire TV includes a quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and a graphics card. it can also predict what you want to watch and put the programs in an queue without you having to wait for the video to load. You can also search for content just by talking into the remote. The video and audio are presented in 1080p with Dolby Digital Plus Surround Sound via HDMI- and optical-out ports. Connectivity comes from dual-band, dual-antenna Wi-Fi or an Ethernet port.
The Fire TV begins to ship today and will cost $99.
