Starting later this month…
Nintendo has officially announced that three free Mercedez-Benz cars will be available via digital download for Mario Kart 8. The models include the Mercedes-Benz GLA, the 300 SL Roadster from the 1950s, and the Silver Arrow of the 1930s.
The GLA comes with special wheel options, and players may customize all three new karts with a variety of wheels and gliders in the game. The digital content is due out on the 22nd anniversary of the launch of the first Mario Kart game, Super Mario Kart, which debuted in Japan on August 27, 1992.
In addition, Super Mario Kart is now available today at Nintendo's eShop for the Wii U for $7.99.
Nintendo and Mercedes-Benz will also host an online worldwide "Mercedes Cup" tournament from August 27 to September 23. Access to the tournament is in the online tournament section.
The free August 27 update will also include some new features for the game including:
Drivers will have the option to display the course map on the TV screen during races
The order of the menu after reach race will now change to "Next Race" followed by "Watch Highlight Reel."
The game will recall recent kart options that were selected even if the Wii U system was previously powered down.
Users may change the options of other players' Mario Kart TV downloaded highlight reels and change the focus to different characters or actions.
A score screen will be added so players may see how many coins they have collected, the win-loss record of their online battles, and their frequently used characters.
There will be improved stability for the online connection to enhance the user experience.
