[PS3, PS2, X360, Wii] TNA Impact Producer interviewed by WrestlingGamers.com

States the gameplay is based off of No Mercy 64!
WrestlingGamers.com recently interviewed Midway's TNA Impact producer - Mark Turmell.
Here's a snippet from the interview:
"Well, we have great respect for the WWE titles and can readily
acknowledge the huge fan base, breadth of features, and excellent ring
entrances. They are a strong force with 10+ years of constant
development. However, we are not big fans of the moment to moment
gameplay that the Smackdown Vs Raw games provide. Controller
responsiveness and crispness is just not there. And we believe that is a
key component of fun gameplay. So we've focused on that and are happy
with our direction. It's more similar to the old N64 No Mercy game than
anything else. So from a feature standpoint, our first TNA Impact
videogame will not match up against Smackdown Vs Raw, but from a
gameplay and in-ring entertainment standpoint we will shine. Competition
is great for videogames, and I suspect our TNA Impact game will have an
effect on future WWE titles."
No Mercy...now THAT'S a great starting point for any wrestling title!

In a perfect world, I'd love to see this TNA game thread the space between the two last wrestling games I bought - Smackdown 2008 and Fire Pro Wrestling Returns. Smackdown *looks* good and has lots of features (including unlockables and rewards, which I always appreciate), but enjoying those features requires that I - you know - PLAY the game. And that's not a lot of fun. Gameplay essentially requires that your matches be as repetitive and redundant as possible. Fire Pro, on the other hand, doesn't have much for features (or graphics...or sound...) but each match is unique and engaging.
So, a good looking game with some next gen features and gameplay that doesn't suck the life out of you would be nice. Of course, this is TNA we're talking about, so they've got that going against them....

Yeah, i'll believe it when I see it, coming from TNA...I highly fucking doubt it.

Anyone else find it funny that TNA employs old WWE talent and now is using an old WWE game engine? Can't they do anything original?

The TNA game will be better then any game WWE's put out in years, just on the roster alone. Plus it's TNA which means it's gold. The fact that they're going to the old WCW engine that WWE ripped off for No Mercy, will be great. TNA the most original company out there continues to shine and be the new face of wrestling.

I dont understand what is so exiting about this. its not that hard to create the "No Mercy" gameplay.

I perosnally liked
WCW Mayhem game play and engine and th eway the crowd if they hyped you or booed you granted if your power meter went up of down -if you could or could not keep the crowd hot also coudl only do finishers when you got the momentum behind you -made for a very intriguing fast paced crowd roaring back and fourth battle -
