[Xbox 360, PS3] THQ Announces WWE Legends of WrestleMania
Posted by Ramon Aranda on 05.06.2008

This is not an official boxart..or is it?

THQ has just announced WWE Legends of Wrestlemania is in development for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The game is scheduled for a March 2009 release date which will coincide with WrestleMania 25 in Houston, Texas.

"We have generated significant year-over-year growth in key global territories with WWE-licensed videogames, including tremendous success with the WWE SmackDown vs. Raw franchise," said Peter Matiss, vice president, global brand management, THQ. "The development capabilities afforded by next generation hardware, combined with our established history and deep understanding of fighting videogames, allow us to leverage the strength of the WWE brand to further extend our leadership in the fighting videogame genre and bring this new property to market."

"JAKKS Pacific is pleased to introduce a new WWE videogame property to the fighting genre," said Nelo Lucich, senior vice president of interactive, JAKKS Pacific. "The WWE SmackDown vs. Raw franchise has captured a collective audience of WWE fans, game enthusiasts and casual players, and we are confident that WWE Legends of WrestleMania will be poised for great success."

We'll keep you posted with any updates we receive regarding the roster and gameplay mechanics.

I'm just hoping that they somehow tie the two games together somehow, interweave them or something for owners of both games. achievements or extra unlockable features etc...

So instead of having the Legends in the SvR game, you'll just buy a totally different game for them? Seems like kind of a step back, unless this one has its own engine - something different from SvR.

why dont they just add these legends to the SVR games, instead of giving us 6 each year...this years SVR game is going to have DLC, so these legends better be available to download

Stfu. Man this is awesome to the old school wrestling fans like myself. Being able to play with the legends. There is about 100 guys they could put in the game and it still wouldnt be enough for me but Ill be happy with it. This should be a celebration not, "oh maybe now they can get back to the main roster, or whats this crap why are they taking "a step back" How are they stepping back. This is a HUGE step forward if you ask me. Quit bitching and go watch TNA.

No way that's the actual box art. If it is, it will be changed by McMahon. I am guessing that Hogan and Andre are the only two of those five that would make the final cut. Piper, Slaughter, and Flair are more McMahon's taste.

I think this game will be the NCAA Football Complement to Madden. You get SDvsRaw in the Fall and WWE Legends in the Spring.

I hope they get together with WWE and try to make classic Wrestlemania and other PPV sets. Like by Year.

I would find it pretty funny if that Boxart stayed the same. It would basically be Mcmahon saying "Suck it Savage and Warrior. No hall of fame for you, but thanks for all the money I am stil making off of you."

Really? If its the same engine then its milking the cash cow, The new TNA game looks miles better than SvR so hopefully the legends would go with a look and gameplay like that. WWE owns all the trademarks to those anyway so of course they are gonna be in the game, Who wouldnt want to whoop some ass with the warrior!!

I too like the idea of having old school WrestlelMania and other PPV sets. Especially the old Royal Rumble and SummerSlam logos of the early 90s.

I'm interested to see if theres going to a story mode similar to the SvR games or maybe an entirely unique story mode. It will be a huge mistake if they don't add a story mode in one form or another. If they did that the game would depend entirely on strength of roster and matche types.

Anything done by THQ has sucked ass... this will still be crappy. I don't care if Strike Force is in it... WWE milks the shit out of their fans, and all you buy into it.

Oh boy. RT, LB, X and A will all be big boots.
RB, B and X will be splashes, and if you hold in X and LT you can do a backdrop.

everyones special is a splash and big boot, except for ultimate warrior who has a full body press.

Oh boy, this sounds way to exciting.
