Wrath of the Lich King sells four million units in the first month, breaks two records.
World of Warcraft now has more subscribers then the seventh biggest state in the United States. According to Blizzard Entertainment, WoW now has 11.5 million people playing the game. To put this in perspective, Ohio, the seventh biggest state in population in 2007 (according to the U.S. Census Bureau), only had 11,466,917 people.
Blizzard is attributing much of the new increase in subscribers to their second expansion, the Wrath of the Lich King. The expansion broke two records in the first month, which were both previously held by WoW's first expansion, The Burning Crusade. Wrath of the Lich King sold over 2.8 million copies on its first day and more than four million copies in the first month, making the game the fastest-selling PC game and setting the monthly PC sale record.
Wrath of the Lich King is currently available for $39.99. Also at that price is the World of Warcraft Battle Chest, which comes with WoW and the expansion, The Burning Crusade, and also the strategy guide for each game.
