Age of Conan Servers Getting Cut in Half!

Massive downsizing of Age of Conan servers.
In the face of a struggling world economy, Funcom has revealed that it will reduce the number of Age of Conan servers from 49 to 18.
According to Gamesindustry.biz, the server cuts will affect North American and Oceanic regions the hardest. Within those territories, the Norwegian videogame publisher will reduce the server count from 24 to 6.
In Europe, only four out of its 12 total servers will be English-speaking. To put these cuts into perspective, there are currently 13 English-speaking servers in Europe alone.
While Funcom revealed that it would consolidate the MMO's servers back in late 2008, the publisher did not then announce how many servers would make the cut. In addition to cost-saving measures for Funcom, the server consolidations would give Age of Conan a greater sense of population density.
While the subscription-based MMO is struggling in a time of recession, the game initially received solid reviews; however, it did receive criticism for the lack of late-game content.

Could be the economy. Could also be the fact that the game is f'ing garbage and they are down to under a half-million players worldwide.

in other news, World of Warcraft opens new servers due to high demand after another successful expansion.
Yep, its the economy.

Warhammer will be considating next I am sure. Both these games rushed production to beat the expansion and are paying for it now.
I think it is safe to say that the only game that will knock WoW off the pedestal is the next MMO from Blizzard.

I think the Champions MMO and Star Wars: KOTOR MMO both have a good shot at being long-term successes. Champions has the CoH guys Cryptic, who have proven they can make a good superhero-based MMO. And KOTOR has Bioware, who while unproven with MMO's, have delivered a string of great titles.
Of course, that's 'successful', not 'WoW toppling', which I doubt either will do. I'm kind of interested in DC Universe Online as well, but that's coming out of Sony, who don't have the greatest track record lately in the MMO genre.
