Capcom Calls "BS" on Resident Evil 5 Complaints

Developer says current game is well worth 60 bucks
Capcom had received complaints about the downloadable content they announced post launch. Most of the complaints were because people didn't understand why it just wasn't on the disk. Here is what Christian Svensson, vice president of Strategic Planning & Business Development for Capcom had to say about the complaints.
This is the part where I get to say "BS"," he wrote on the Capcom forums. "RE5 is well worth every penny of $60. A huge game, with tons of replay value, loads of unlockables, new weapons, co-op, mercenaries mode, etc. If any game warrants its price point, it's RE5.
Prior to the announcement of the Versus mode, no one complained they weren't getting their money's worth with the initial release because it packs TONS of value because it is an amazing game. So if people were already satisfied with what the package had, when we offer MORE, why is it people feel they've been somehow cheated? If you don't find value in our secondary offerings, the choice is simple, don't purchase it. If you do find it valuable (and we hope you do) please do buy it and enjoy it.
Svensson goes on to explain that any downloadable content that Capcom does has a budget separate from the main game.
Secondly, whenever we do PDLC, that content exists with its own budgets, it's own profit and loss analysis with its own forecasts. If it didn't, that extra content wouldn't have been put into production, because it did not fit within the production budget of the base product.
The content that is shipping in the full game exists within its own budget. The content shipping afterward (regardless of how close to release it is... because the goal IS to have it release relatively closely to the base product's release) exists within its own budget. To try and have it release in a time frame that is relatively close to the initial release, development starts well before the base product is on the shelves. There's no other way to keep it within 3 to 6 weeks of the initial release (which is the goal).

Not a huge RE fan but this stuff angers me. When I played through the 10 quests in Fallout 3 and they very shortly afterward said they were making three DLC packs I said "alright that's enough". I sold my copy to a friend and potentially cost Bethesda 60 bucks they would've made had they finished the original game and included a proper ending. I refuse to buy any DLC now. It's making companies lazy and greedy. There is a difference between releasing an expansion a year after a game's out, and announcing DLC a week after. Given the scope of GTAIV and the length of time between the releases I'm willing to cut them some slack. The unabashed greed of companies will kill this industry slowly but surely, ask THQ.

Fans, by defintion, are greedy, selfish, and stupid pieces of crap scumbags. It always makes me smile when they get the smackdown.

Well at least the DLC isn't Console Exclusive.

Yes the Fans are greedy selfish bastards and if it wasn't for them there wouldn't be gaming industry.

The strategy guide details the versus mode. Kind of strange that it's not in the game when it's in the guide, given the long lead times of any print material.

What alot of people dont understand is this is a crucial time for the gaming industry when it comes to DLC.
Developers and publishers are still testing this out, seeing how the consumer responds and if people buckle down and buy this, then you will see alot more of it in the future.
So this isent about 5$ or whatever, if you end up owning 25ish games in a generation (which isent much for a gamer) and you will end up buying several DLC updates for each game, do the math on your own.
10 years ago EPIC GAMES released free bonus packs for Unreal Tournament on the pc, these included 16 or so maps a piece, character models etc and none of it was in the game prior. Can you imagine Bungee or even Epic today doing the same?
Its very important to say NO to this, wouldnt suprise me if the movie industry dosent do the same. Ie purchase Tom Cruises commentary on Valkiyrie (sp?) for 10$, another 5$ will land you 2 deleted scenes etc.

You've never heard of special edition DVDs before?

if they want to do something they can fix the glitch in the game that erases your save data.
