E3: Samurai Showdown: Edge of Destiny (Xbox 360) Preview
Posted by Jeffrey Harris on 06.03.2009

Haohmaru and the game are back in the latest installment of the bloody classic SNK/Playmore fighting series, Samurai Showdown: Edge of Destiny. This new version series brings the characters out of 2D hand-drawn pixelation and into the realm of 3D. All the characters are now completely CG, and they look great. Think Samurai Showdown more in the style of the look of Street Fighter IV.

First impressions are that the game plays great and is a lot of fun. Special moves and combos are easy to pull off. There's a lot of weapons based fighting in the gameplay. There's also a berserker rage meter that you can light activate to make for some extra critical hacking and slashing and some superb combo action. Some drawbacks are that the jump action in the fighting is a little clunky and hard to do. Ignition says this is an early version and that will hopefully be worked out.

This will also be the first game in the Samurai Showdown series to feature ONLINE GAMEPLAY. Just like King of Fighters, you will now be able to play this game online. The problem? Its only set for release on Xbox 360 right now. The folks at Ignition Entertainment sounded hopeful though that PS3 version will happen eventually.
