First Look: It's 10 years later, and Rapture has become an even uglier and nastier place.
Take Two/2K Games helped us journey back to the domain of Fontain and the underwater city of Rapture in their media presentation for the new game, BioShock II, set for release in early November of 2009. 2K Games explained the setup of the single player and online multiplayer versions for the game.
For the single player, there wasn't really a demonstration of the game but more or less a trailer. In the sequel, the game is set 10 years after the events of the first game. You are now literally playing as Big Daddy. But this Big Daddy you are playing as was the very first one, and this Big Daddy apparently has free will of his own. After Big Daddy awakes, he can locate and help or harvest the little sisters that still exist in Rapture. But lurking in Rapture is another creature that wants to take over, that of Big Sister. Big Sister looks similar to Big Daddy, but she's smaller and more agile and can easily jump around and is pretty acrobatic. The overall gameplay and style looks very similar to the first one, but being able to play as a Big Daddy including the awesome drill is pretty cool. However, the early narration video that was already posted here goes a lot more in-depth about the single player mode.
There was a much more comprehensive demonstration for the new online multiplayer version of the game. The multiplayer narrative sets you as Jack Norris, a Rapture engineer that's being contracted by a company called Sinclair. The narrative is also set during the civil war in Rapture, and when you leave your docking bay you can battle other spliced players while getting to choose from a variety of different plasmid powers and weapons. You can also build your character to specifically how you would like them to battle in multiplayer be it long-range, stealth, or short-distance. In addition, you can also use gun turrets in the environments and hack into them to shoot at your enemies as a trap. The big pickup though in multiplayer is the Big Daddy itself. If you defeat the Big Daddy, it becomes a pickup item and you can become the Big Daddy and lay some more fishy waste to your enemies.
