Overlord 2 (Xbox 360) Preview

Hands On: One of the most hilarious and enjoyable video games of 2007 returns with a much deserved and anticipated sequel.
This guy wants to play with you
When I first picked Overlord out of the 10 dollar bin at my local "game exchange", I really was not expecting anything from it but a way to waste my weekend. What ensued was one nonstop day of almost wetting my pants in hilarity as I forced my minions to raise hell by destroying anything and everything including sheep and pumpkins which would be worn as armor, all while enjoying their snide little banter.
You don't want to pet this panda!
Upon completion of that game I actually felt a little sad inside, almost as if it was the last day of summer vacation. I didn't know where the next laugh was going to come from or what game would fill this surprising void. Mainly because I had no interest in this game prior to a bargain bin shopping spree which led me to believe that this had to be a universal feeling amongst gamers. Fortunately, the inner minions in us will have our needs satiated with the June 23rd release of Overlord 2, with a small glimpse of the fun yet to come being released as a demo on the XBLA and the PSN.
The demo reintroduces us to the "Overlord", frozen in his icy tomb with his minions discussing their ability to free him and the history of how they took over. The cartoon cut scene is of the highest quality and rivals anything put out by Dreamworks or Pixar in terms of graphics. However, the reason for this game is not mainly the graphics but the dialogue and the things that occur when around you. For instance, the minion that pokes a hole in your icy encasement ends up with his eye frozen in the hole, while he looks at the shaman for help. Absolute hilarity.
The game itself follows the same formula as the first Overlord. Point and assign your minions to attack certain positions and strategically use them to move ahead through the levels. We are introduced to some of the newer characters, including the Yeti in the playable level Nordberg, in our quest to rebuild or castle. The graphics are tight with no lagging and the game play is identical to before although your minions have new weapons and help including the ability to ride wolves.
Upon the realization that this demo is way too small to completely satisfy me, I realize that it will only be a short time before the game is out and my weekend is wasted with some of the most hilarious and hotly anticipated fun.
Overlord 2 will be released on June 23rd for the Xbox 360 and the PS3. This game is a must have, must buy game based on the demo.
