Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 (Xbox 360) Preview

Hands On: The master of golf games returns but does it just last year’s model repackaged? The preview gives us an answer…..

There is no disputing the fact that Tiger Woods is to golf games as Madden is to football, but there is one more similarity between those two that has been proven after playing the most recent demo from Tiger Woods PGA series, changes only come every so often rather than every year. I am a big fan of the Tiger Woods series and will always play it whenever the game comes out, but with that being said I am also very strict with what I expect to see from them.

This year Tiger Woods introduces the USGA Championship and USGA's Rules of Golf, club power has been reduced, the Weather Channel is now involved and you can choose to try to recreate the exact shots that Tiger has made over his illustrious career. There are also several new holes and courses to play.
There is one big addition this year that has me intrigued. Players will be able to "play live" essentially by playing in sync with a tournament and posting their scores on a live leader board which will show them exactly how they match up to the pros during that tournament. While there are no prizes right now it is pretty enjoyable. Players will also be able to play in online tournaments.
The stroke play is still the same as last year with players being able to choose whether or not they want to utilize the joystick or the button (and for Wii players the motionplus system). They can choose the angle, direction, and spin of their ball as well as create their own custom golfer.
The courses are again amazingly done, with no detail left out or deemed too little to be focused on. The swings, balls, announcers and greens are all on par with last year. So while the game is new, the demo does not show too much that can be considered "Fresh." However, that isn't necessarily a bad thing. If this year's version can be just a good as last years, then the game will definitely be a success.
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 release June 8th on the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Wii. This game is a definite rental to possible buy based on the demo.
