Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles (Wii) Preview

Hands-on: Journey back to a new pair of past Resident Evil titles in this on-rails sequel.
This guy needs some serious help
We spent quite a bit of time at Capcom's booth during E3 this year and as a Resident Evil fan, I made sure to get a close look at Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles for the Nintendo Wii. The game is a sequel to The Umbrella Chronicles and dives into parts of Resident Evil 2 and Code Veronica to give gamers a glimpse into previously unseen developments in those stories.
He just wants a hug!
Though I didn't review the first game, I do own it so I had some interest in seeing how this sequel is shaping up. From the get go, I noticed that there's been a bump in the graphics department as there's some slight improvements in the textures and overall details of the zombies and backgrounds. The game itself controls pretty much in the same manner that you did before, with the Wii remote. My demo consisted of a chapter in Resident Evil 2 and it didn't take much time to notice that there's been a change to the camera system. No longer is it static, moving you along at a steady pace – no, the camera has gone Blair Witch Project-style in that it moves frantically to simulate your own head movement so it sort of makes you panic a little bit more though those that can easily get dizzy might want to play in short bursts. As for playing with a friend, you'll be able to share items and weapons that you pick up along the way. Also, the point of view is zoomed in a little so that you're closer to the action. A few times I was caught by surprise by some zombies trying to get in my face and even with plenty of light in the room; it was still a decent fright.
I'd say the game appeared to be running a little faster than Umbrella Chronicles which was just fine by me. Unfortunately the demo didn't last as long as I would've liked since there was only one chapter available from the RE2 and Code Veronica sections but I had a good time with what I managed to play.
The game is expected to be released this winter so we'll have to refrain from dishing out the pain for a few more months.
RE Umbrella Chronicles was probably the only game I really enjoyed when I had my Wii.
DSC is the one Wii game I'm a bit jealous of.

I think the first pic that captioned Leon is actually Steve Burnside from Code Veronica on account of the attire and prisoner collar he's sporting

The first picture is of Steve Burnside, not Leon Kennedy (although they do look quite similar, Leon has more blond-ish hair and wears a police uniform)
I'm looking forward to this game though, looks like a solid one for the Wii.
