FEAR 2: Reborn DLC (Xbox 360) Preview
Posted by Todd Vote on 09.01.2009

There is a new campaign coming for FEAR 2. The new campaign promises four new levels. The game also claims you will "Experience the end of Alma from a whole new perspective". Well that sounds pretty damn good to me, considering anybody who read my review of the FEAR 2 main title knows that I wasn't exactly happy with the way the game ended. I'm still not sure that I experienced the end of Alma the first time around, as last I checked that chick raped me to get pregnant, and then just vanished… Needless to say, seeing an end to that bitch that violated me has all sorts of potential. Let's see what is on tap for this new DLC.

The demo opens with a brief video detailing a few of the events from the main disc campaign. Well, detailing may be the wrong word, brief snippets of the main disc campaign is probably more accurate. All this while you hear a growly voice-over telling you that it is up to you to set him free.

Players are then dropped into the role of Foxtrot813. Foxtrot is a random Replica Soldier who starts to hear this growling voice and goes against Replica Command. In case there was any doubt about this, the last thing you hear before taking control is "Foxtrot813 has gone rogue. Shoot Foxtrot813 on site." Yeah, shit just got real. The demo features some interesting effects that change the perspective of the game a bit. There is one part where you are actually running through a building that is half toppled. This essentially has you running on walls, and dropping through windows to reach your checkpoint. Think of the scene at the end of Cloverfield, where Rob is going after his girlfriend Beth in her building. That should give you an idea of the visual treats on display here. The demo ties up with some of those cool ‘ghosting' effects that FEAR 2 features, and you again hear the growling voice saying you will have to set him free. You are the key.

Fans of the multiplayer will not be disappointed. The game is set to have a title update along side the release of this DLC that will feature a new Slow motion death match. This new mode features a power-up that makes all of the competition move very slow while you run circles around them at normal pace.

Be sure to check out this new DLC, FEAR 2: Reborn when it hits the Xbox 360 On Thursday September 3rd. The DLC pack will retail for 800 Microsoft points.
