Remington Great American Bird Hunt (Wii) Preview
Posted by Ramon Aranda on 10.08.2009

With a Duck Hunt sequel sorely missing from the Nintendo Wii's library, Mastiff has stepped in to take care of that itch to shoot some flying animals (and if you have that itch, shame on you…j/k).

Focused on delivering a straight up arcade experience, Remington Great American Bird Hunt doesn't try to be something it's not. Playing the game at a recent preview event with Mastiff, it was pretty much what you'd expect from a game at your local Dave & Busters (or arcade…do they even have those anymore?). Up to four players can play competitively or in co-op mode. You'll pull out some official Remington shotguns such as the 870 Shurshot Turkey to mow down ducks, pheasants, geese, grouse and turkeys.

While playing in a few levels, I found that you could find power-ups such as extended clips or ‘Hunter Vision' glasses which let you see your targets much easier. The point of the game is to simply pile up the points which you can add to by getting consecutive kills. You can advance to new levels by attaining a certain amount of points which also nets you gold medals and such to show off. You can also select an emblem to represent you on the leaderboards which are unfortunately only local.

I was told the game boasts over sixty levels so there's plenty of shooting time available and really, it's just a matter of showing up your friends. If you're feeling friendly, you can of course play in Hunting Party mode where you basically compete in a shooting gallery of birds.

The game is released later on this month and should be available at a modest price of $29.99. Again, we don't expect a ton of innovation but if you're looking for some old fashioned shooting, this may be for you.

We'll have a full review in the coming weeks.
