Updated: LEGO Rock Band (Xbox 360) Preview
Posted by Sean Garmer on 10.15.2009

LEGO has been around for nearly 80 years and though they are known for making toys and theme packs. Lately they've built their name in the video game market with the LEGO Star Wars series, LEGO Indiana Jones, and now LEGO Harry Potter. However, this November the LEGO mini-figures will be rocking out on stage on their own Rock Band game. Thanks to Travelers Tales Games and music highways and tracks handled by MTV Games/Harmonix it lets the whole family jam together.

This is virtually Rock Band 2 with a LEGO skin as far as the core gameplay goes. That is fine though because it will have all the small updates just recently patched into RB 2. As well as RB 2's much lauded gameplay. All of the display's have LEGO things on them and collecting studs will be your new hobby. The studs can be used to purchase unlockable accessories, characters, and build vehicles.

I posted a preview three months back on 411 with E3 demo information, but there has been some updated information about the game released in the last few days.

It's been finally confirmed that the 45 track setlist will be exportable to Rock Band 2 for a fee of 800 Microsoft Points ($10.00). Some of the longer tracks have been shortened to make them more kid friendly and so that vocalists have less dead time too. It may be something hardcore fans of RB may not find too cool, but remember this game is meant for the whole family. LEGO will follow the Beatles trend and have all songs available from the start in quickplay.

The game will also support all existing and future DLC with a "family filter" implemented to make sure the game keeps its E-10 rating.

Gamers cannot actually fail out of songs in LEGO Rock Band. Players can lose all their collectible studs (basically your money in the game) for that song. Harmonix has revealed that David Bowie and Iggy Pop will have their own mini-figures to unlock as well.

--------------Features already discussed in the last preview-------------------

-Create mini-figures and customize them to make your own band with LEGO accessories and costumes.

-Play in Story Moce and go on a world tour. There are new power challenges. Certain songs will start a challenge with a theme. If you pass the song you'll beat the challenge. Highways will also disappear to let you see the action going on in the background.

-Very Easy mode has been added similar to the one in Guitar Hero World Tour where guitar players just strum notes in rhythm and drummers get to play randomly too.

Does the export songs from Lego Rock Band to Rock Band 2 feature allow you to delete individual songs from the export afterwards? This question is for the benefit of those of us who want to exclude "So What" by Pink from the setlist (I'm sure I'm not alone on this opinion).

8 good songs is not bad, I guess.

I would assume the export will be just like Rock Band 1. Especially since Harmonix tends to listen to its fans on the forums. And a lot of people complain about wishing they could delete some of the 20 free songs or songs from the track packs like the AC/DC one.

Typically, you can delete individual songs on XBOX 360 but not on PS3. I would expect the same for Lego Rock Band.
