Retro/Grade (PS3/PSN) Preview
Posted by John De Large on 09.24.2010

Retro/Grade bears two honorable distinctions. First, it is one of the most difficult games I've ever played. Second, it is one of the most difficult-to-describe games I've ever had to write a preview for. However, neither of these things will stop me from enjoying Retro/Grade and I doubt it would stop any of our readers from enjoying the game either.

Retro/Grade begins with the end of a climactic dogfight between two space ships and goes in reverse from there. Bullets go back into the ships that originally shot them and it's up to the player to be in the exact spot the bullet was shot from while pressing the "shoot button," in time with the bullet leaving the ship. To do this you can use a gamepad or a guitar controller, the latter option making the game exponentially cooler as you control an outer space dogfight in reverse with a guitar.

If you need further clarification on what to do, Retrograde's website might put it best: "Players are forced to dodge enemy projectiles while positioning the ship to be in the correct place to fire their lasers when their shots come back to them."

And if any of those descriptions fail, here's a video:

Retro/Grade will be available for the PlayStation 3 via the Playstation Network in 2011.
