Hands on: JDL gets hands on with an arcade style shooting game that both the old school and new school will appreciate.
Gatling Gears
Gatling Gears is an excellent arcade style game that makes me wish that arcade machines weren't confined to dank laundromats. There are lots of arcade games that've been ported to Xbox LIVE and PSN, but Gatling Gears really feels like something new, not a rehash, remake or a port of something else. Gatling Gears is a twin stick shooter that lets players take control of mech walkers and spam chaingun bullets, grenades at their enemies, who come at players in waves. Using powerups that downed enemies drop, players gain access to unlimited ammo, nukes, lightning cluster bombs and lay waste to everything in front of them. There's also an option to upgrade weapons, firing speed and armor so players can make their mean machines even meaner. It's everything I love about old school arcade games wrapped in part steampunk/part Norman Rockwell design.
After going hands on with the game and trying it out, I have to say that I can't wait for this one to be available for download! I'm salivating at the thought of playing this game again at PAX East in a few days!
Gatling Gears will be available for download at an unspecified date in Q2 2011.
