Hands on: JDL goes hands on with an unsettling but unbelievably awesome incarnation of Alice In Wonderland. How was it?
Alice: Madness Returns
Alice: Madness Returns is a really dark, really fun action/adventure game with some platformer and horror elements thrown in. I got to go hands on with the game, even though I wasn't technically supposed to, after showing an EA employee a creative trick involving my sweet butterfly knife that isn't really a butterfly knife.
As Alice, players will battle against warped deformed knights that resemble a deck of playing cards purchased from the Silent Hill gift shop. To do battle against these foes, Alice has her Vorpal Sword (which looks kind of like a cake knife actually), a hobby horse that can be used as an axe/hammer/bludgeon, a peppermill that functions as a crankable machine gun of sorts and last but not least, a teapot that fires magical blue grenades.
Oh yeah -- it just got real.
Players can also take advantage of flowers that give Alice a shrinking property. While I didn't get to see her use this to sneak into any place, I saw that it curiously gave Micro-Alice a second sight ability that let her see invisible bridges and invisible writing on walls. I'm hoping there'll be other flowers that grant different abilities. Maybe there'll be a gigantic Macro-Alice or a spiked blade covered Alice. Who knows? Well, we'll all know what other forms, weapons and what else awaits when the madness returns on June 14th.
