E3 2011: Aliens: Colonial Marines Preview
Posted by Jeffrey Harris on 06.10.2011

SEGA and 20th Century Fox Interactive gave attendees and media at E3 2011 a special first look and video demonstration of the new game, Aliens: Colonial Marines. Now we've seen Alien franchise games and Aliens vs. Predator games before but this looks like something much different. This game is a direct sequel to the classic 1980's James Cameron movie, Aliens. In this game, you play as a group of colonial marines that travel to the planet of Alien and Aliens after the xenomorphs have already destroyed the human colony their and Ripley, Newt, Bishop, and Hicks were able to escape in space.

So it looks like the marines crash land in the wrecked colony. It is the same one from the Aliens movie and we see some familiar areas and props as well. Some of the face hugger creatures are still in their tubes. Unfortunately the wrecked colony is still infested with the alien creatures. The aliens attack and the main character barely survives. They are shifted to right outside the colony and a new alien breed called The Bruiser is introduced. The marines flee and barely make it inside a cargo bay with his remaining comrades. The main player gets a chance to get some weapons and reload and the aliens breach the perimeter again. Some of the marines attempt to fight in the famous power loader machines. But eventually the aliens over-run the group. The demo ends with an alien queen appearing and attacking your character and apparently about to kill him with that nasty mouth/tongue.

This looks like the first Aliens videogame I might be interested in playing. It will be a first person shooter and I like the story aspect as working directly off of the Aliens movie while not really contradicting any of the others. The action looks genuinely creepy and very much in the style of the classic movie franchise with the aliens breaching rooms from the ceiling and beneath metal grates.

Aliens: Colonial Marines is currently set for release in Spring 2012. It will be hitting the XBox 360, PS3, and the PC. In addition, the game is also being developed for the Wii-U. So SEGA is also developing a Wii-U version of the game as well and even showed some footage at the Nintendo booth at E3. I imagine the game will drop on the Wii-U around the time it comes out but we shall see.

Gee, you mean they're not going to continue the shit story Joss Whedon killed the franchise with?

Guest to be fair they aren't changing or rebooting any events from previous movies. My understanding is everything is still canon. This is simply a videogame sequel to Aliens that takes place after after Aliens and I guess before Alien 3.
