Cartoon Network Punch Time Explosion XL (360, PS3, Wii) Preview
Posted by John De Large on 10.21.2011

Cartoon Network: Punch Time Explosion was released for the 3DS back in June. Featuring Cartoon Network characters such as Chowder, Dexter and the Powerpuff Girls, it served as something of a handheld answer to of Smash Bros. Now, Papaya Games has revealed that there will be a version of PTE available on the Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360, Cartoon Network: Punch Time Explosion XL.

Similar to Smash Bros. Brawl, up to 4 players will be able to fight it out, using items and character assists to help them. As fights go on and opponents take damage, they drop little orbs that players can pick up to build a meter that allows them to use a finishing attack. So what makes Punch Time Explosion: XL different from its 3DS counterpart? For starters, some playable characters can join forces with their assist characters, allowing them to use even more screen clearing attacks than their finishing attacks. For example, if Chowder gets his hands on the Madame Foster assist, he can join with her to turn himself into a giant yarn ball that rolls over everything on screen! Another example, if The Scotsman gets ahold of the Numbah Two/Hoagie assist, they can fly offscreen control and shoot their opponents with a machine gun, using a crosshair to target them.

There are also 5 new stages, plus 8 new characters that were added in Punch Time Explosion XL: Aku and The Scotsman from Samurai Jack, Young Ben and (Teen) Kevin Levin from Ben 10, Him from The Powerpuff Girls, Hoss Delgado from The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, The Toiletnator from Kids Next Door and lastly, Johnny Bravo from Van Partible's Johnny Bravo.

Need more modes? There's a story mode that involves 30+ levels and plays like a very forgiving platformer, that just warps you back to a checkpoint and doesn't keep track of lives. There's an Arcade Mode, a Training Mode, PTE Mode where players compete to charge their meter and Fight The Drones mode where players compete to defeat the most incoming enemies.

Cartoon Network: Punch Time Explosion XL will be available on November 8th for $39.99 (on Xbox 360and PS3) and $29.99 (Nintendo Wii). For even more information, check out the screenshots and trailer posted below and check out the character renders coming soon!
