E3 2012: Bellator: MMA Onslaught (PS3) Preview
Posted by Jeffrey Harris on 06.26.2012

Being a huge MMA fan as well as a fan of Bellator, I was excited to check out the PS3 version of the Bellator: MMA Onslaught during E3 this year at the Spike/345 Games booth. The game was developed by Kung Fu Factory who previously made Supremacy MMA which was alright but didn't give quite enough bang for your buck compared to say UFC Undisputed especially in terms of roster depth. So now we have Bellator: MMA Onslaught which will be Bellator's videogame debut. This will be a DLC title for Xbox Live Arcade and the Playstation Network and it will have a more economical price tag of $15, so it does have that going for it.

Now the roster for the game at launch will be a little light. At launch the game will mainly feature fighters in Bellator's featherweight division including current champion, Pat Curran, former champion and baddest man on the planet Joe Warren, Patricio "Pitbull" Freire, and current tournament winner Daniel Straus. Besides that it will also feature two other lightweight fighters, current Bellator lightweight champion Michael Chandler and Patricio's brother, Patricky "Pitbull" Freire. I'm told by the developers that more fighters and more divisions could be added later. You will also be able to create your own fighter as well.

Controls were good and pretty simple. Attempting and pulling off submissions is a little more exciting and not quite as hard as the UFC Undisputed games. It's more of an arcade, fighting game style of MMA. Takedowns and grappling work well. Besides the regular versus mode, I also got to test out some other modes like Championship Road which is similar to a season mode or Bellator's tournament as you compete in order to take home a title. You can use current roster fighters in this mode so that's a big plus. Bellator: MMA Onslaught will be hitting PSN and Xbox Live Arcade later this summer as a downloadable title.
