Tekken: Dark Resurrection (PSP) Preview
Posted by Andrew Mellick on 07.17.2006

Game: Tekken Dark Resurrection
Release: July, 25 2006
Genre: Fighting
Publisher: Namco
Multiplayer: Yes (via wi-fi)

Namco finally brings its heavy hitting fighter to the PSP. Tekken: Dark Resurrection will hit the PSP on July 25th.

It's going to be a port, but Namco is taking steps to ensure this is more than just a recycled version for the PSP. New stages, more customizable options, mini-games, and multi-player battles (via wi-fi) have been added for your gaming pleasure.

TDR includes over 30 characters including two new faces; Dragonuv and Lili. As well as, the names you know like Jin, Heihachi, Paul, Law and more.

Namco will be supplying the eye candy that Tekken fans have come to expect, with 19 gorgeous stages complete with breakable objects.

Rumor has it there will be some element of a creatable character system, but at the moment it appears this feature will have more to do with customizing original characters rather than creating your own from scratch. Namco boasts that TDR will feature twice the customizable items Tekken 5 had.

We will have to wait and see how it turns out in the end, but if Tekken can make a decent create-a-fighter menu it will definitely go a long way in showing that Dark Resurrection is more than just a port with a few extra bells and whistles.

Bottom Line: I am cautiously optimistic about this game. Namco seems to really be putting in the effort to make this more than just a port. It is a great chance for them to breathe new life in this franchise on a system that lacks fighting games. Make sure you check back here for a full review when Tekken Dark Resurrection hits stores!
