50 Cent Bulletproof: G Unit Edition (PSP) Preview

Better than the console versions? Looks like it!
50 Cent Bulletproof G Unit Edition will be a PSP port of last year's lackluster PS2 game of the same name. Or is it? At close inspection the answer is both, yes and no.
Now 50 goes everywhere!
Yes, the single player story is the same, as judging by the storyline movies shown of the PSP version. You take control of 50 Cent and go all out gangsta to try and save your friend K-Dog. As the story progresses, you will take on rival gang members, good cops, bad cops and everything in between as the story gets more complicated and you unravel the mystery of K-Dog's disappearance. Hey, maybe he is working for TNA as the leader of the LAX, but who knows.
New overhead perspective is a great change from the 3rd person original
However, the PSP version has a drastic change is perspective, literally. Now you control 50 from an over head, Baldur's Gate/Champions of Norrath-esque perspective.
Executed gangsta style
The combat system has also been overhauled to play to the strength of this new perspective. You will come into possession of a great deal of weapons, from knifes and baseball bats, to pistols and shotguns. Pressing the R trigger will allow you to lock into enemies and the circle you use to lock on will change from red to green to demonstrate how much damage the attack will yield. A little number detailing how much damage you dealt will also show up, RPG style!. Melee combat is also very deep, with multi-hit combos, charged up one punch finishers and the ability to grab your opponent and throw him, or use him as a human shield., or better yet, perform a one hit execution move that will be vary according to the weapon you have equipped!
Adding to the Diablo-esque RPG elements, you can get cash, body armor, bling bling and weapon upgrades from fallen enemies as the game does it's best to keep you killing things. No Armor of Kings or Sword of God Given Power like in RPG games, but close enough.
Multiplayer action
Multiplayer modes include deathmatch and capture the flag variants. So far, the PSP version of 50 Cent Bulletproof looks like an improvement over the console versions. With the game expected to be released later on this month, I am sure one of our reviewers will give you the final call on this long awaited game.
