Crysis (PC) Preview
Posted by Armando Rodriguez on 09.11.2006

Crytek is a very popular company among FPS fans. Their first game, Far Cry, pushed computers to their graphic limit with it's gorgeous visuals, while having a compelling single player mode and decent multiplayer. Now Crytek is back to force us to upgrade our computers yet again! That's right folks, Crysis promises to be the first true "Next Gen" game according to the development team.

God this looks awesome

One of the biggest complaints about Far Cry was that the single player mode was basically a bunch of missions hooked up by cut scenes and nothing else. Crysis on the other hand, looks to have a full fledged story divided on three big chapters. The story involves an asteroid landing in an island and two forces fighting over it, the US and the North Koreans. The race to the meteor is the first chapter. Then you discover that this asteroid is somehow connected to an alien invasion of Earth as the aliens themselves show up and start taking down Americans and Koreans alike. The final chapter involves the usage of some zero gravity warfare as you take the fight to the aliens own environment.

The game promises to be non-linear. For example, you will not specifically need NPC characters to do something for you. Let's say that an NPC was supposed to warn you of some danger or open some door for you. But the enemies kill him. In other games you would need to reload your game. Not here. It might be harder and take more time to figure out, but you can continue your game. Also you might stumble into fights between the humans and aliens. It is up to you if you decide to take part of them or not, specially if your ammo supply is low. It might be pointless with no reward, or you might find a new weapon that would normally show up very late in the game or find some secret or NPC ally. Crytek wants to make sure that you find new stuff and that the game plays very different in each play trough.

Crysis looks to combine next gen graphics with next gen gameplay. Scheduled to be released later this year, Crysis might be the reason you upgrade your computer again. Check out this awesome screenshots.
