How does the Wii-mote work with Zelda? Come in to find out! Plus, 7 new screens!
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is perhaps the first must have title on the Wii launch lineup. But how does the unorthodox Wii controller works with the game? How good does the game look? Is it truly a must play? Read on to find out.
This is the story summary from IGN.com:
"Link, a young man raised as a wrangler in a small, rural village, is ordered by the mayor to attend the Hyrule Summit. He sets off, oblivious to the dark fate that has descended upon the kingdom. When he enters the Twilight Realm that has covered Hyrule, he transforms into a wolf and is captured. A mysterious figure named Midna helps him break free, and with the aid of her magic, they set off to free the land from the shadows. Link must explore the vast land of Hyrule and uncover the mystery behind its plunge into darkness. As he does, he'll have to enlist the aid of friendly folk, solve puzzles and battle his way through dangerous dungeons. In the Twilight Realm, he'll have to use his wolf abilities and Midna's magic to bring light to the land. Besides his trusty sword and shield, Link will use his bow and arrows, fight while on horseback and use a wealth of other items, both new and old."
Now, how does the wii remote and nunchaku combo work with the game? It looks like it turns this Zelda game into an unique experience. First of all, you don't need to kill yourself swinging the controller like a freak to make Link attack. The game sensors allow for you to make just slight motions with your wrist and translate them into attacks on screen. Which means that you can make nice combos and even attack in multiple directions just by combining wrist movements. A small movement of the wrist will extract your sword from it's sheath when you are unarmed.
Fishing has been a staple of the Zelda series, specially once Ocarina of Time turned it into an addiction. Well, fishing makes a return in Wii format and the controls work like a charm. You can actually throw your fishing rod by moving the wii-mote just like you would throw a real fishing rod and you can reel it in by making a reel motion with the nunchaku. Of course, you can move the lure side to side by flicking your wrist from side to side and you even need to arc back a little to hook the fish once they pull, just like real fishing!
For those who were skeptical about the new control system for Zelda on the Wii, relax. It works like a charm and if you don't like them, you can just plug in an old Gamecube controller and play with the standard Gamecube setup. We will have more information about Twilight Princess once it comes out at launch. Also, check out 7 new screens!
