One of the first must have Wii titles? Looks like it!
Red Steel is another game from Ubisoft that is expected to be part of the Wii launch lineup. But how does this first person shooter/slasher hybrid works? That's what I am here to tell you!
Red Steel is part first person shooter and part first person hack and slash. In addition to the typical guns, machine guns and rifles from the genre, you will get to wield bamboo swords and katanas among other melee weapons. The game utilizes a loose lock on feature that allows you to zoom on enemies. It does not guarantee a hit, it just allows the camera to be focused on the bad guy in question and allows you to zoom in as much as you want, which is done by extending your arm outwards. Then it is up to you to line up the hit and press the trigger…err, Wii-mote button.
Swordplay feels very intuitive in this game, mostly because it works very realistically with your movements. You wield two swords at a time (or in the case of one sword, the remote controls the attacks and the nunchaku the blocks) and you use one for attacking and one for blocking. Attacking is done by moving the remote, while blocking is done by trusting the nuchaku attachment upwards in timing with your opponents attack. Judging by the screenshots, it might be possible to wield a gun in one hand and a sword on the other, but how controls will work for that is yet unknown.
Ubisoft is keeping all storyline information under wraps, but it looks like Red Steel is, alongside Zelda: Twilight Princess, the first must play Wii game come launch on November 19. Expect an updated look at the game when we get more info.
