Excite Truck (Wii) Preview
Posted by Armando Rodriguez on 09.25.2006

With Excite Truck, Nintendo plans on resurrecting an old formula. That's right, Excite Truck is the return of the classic Excitebike, but using Trucks instead of motorcycles. But how is this arcade racer shaping up? Read on fellow readers.

The tracks in Excite Truck are your enemy. They are full of jumps and hazards that will require you to be on your toes. Much like in Excitebike, to survive you will rely on your truck's boost, as well as the ability to adjust in mid-air and land the jumps perfectly. You will also have access to landscape altering power-ups. Which means that you can expect this trucks to take to the air in some absolutely insane jumps.

To control your truck, you will use the remote turned sideways. Steering the remote left or right will actually steer the vehicle. The D Pad will trigger your turbo boost and the face button(Button 2 or B depending on which Wii-mote model finally makes it out there) serves as the accelerator. The speed boost will be your key weapon, but don't over use it or your truck will overheat and slow down. By tilting the remote backwards or forward you can actually adjust your pitch while in mid air to try for that perfect landing. Getting a perfect landing automatically gives you a speed boost that never overheats your truck(in other words, it is separate from the one you manually control). Obviously this means perfect landings are required to stay ahead without risking overheat.

So far the graphics are looking quite good and very detailed, so no matter how much dirt you see, it looks good and not bland and repetitive like many games on the genre. Be aware that only two tracks where shown in the preview version.

Excite Truck looks to be the perfect arcade racer to go with the Wii on November 19. Stay tuned to 411mania for updated info as soon as it becomes available.
