It looks like the Wii is going to be home to some of the more unique and quirky games. Elebits fits those characteristics quite well. Part shooter, part puzzler, with tons of exploration required.
The premise for Elebits is simple. The Elebits are small organisms who work as living batteries. They are responsible for powering up everything in the world. But of course, they decide that it's time for them to rebel and leave their duties. It is up to you and a flashlight like device to capture the Elebits and put them back to work. This device allows you to capture the elebits and do other stuff like lift objects and activate appliances. The mechanics for trapping elebits are just like a standard shooter, aim and shoot. But elebits are quick to hide and difficult to find, so you can expect quite a challenge.
The mechanics for activating appliances and lifting objects is where the puzzle aspect comes forth. Elebits could be anywhere and everywhere. You need to lift and knock stuff out of the way to find them. But every object you can lift, from rocks to toasters to a roasted chicken, have their own weight values. The heavier the item, the more energy is consumed by moving them. You will also need a certain amount of watts in your device to activate appliances like the dishwasher or the microwave. The only way to get more watts is to zap in elebits, so you need to be careful and think how you invest those watts!
You also get some secondary items to help you in your quest, like a EMP device that freezes all elebits in your screen for a couple of seconds, allowing you to have an easier time zapping them in.
If you like hide and seek style games that involve a lot of exploration, puzzle solving and shooting, Elebits is for you. It looks like one of the most unique games on the Wii launch lineup and the premise sounds really fun. We will have you updated on it's progress.
