Gundam goes cute!
Gundam makes its Wii debut in the form of SD Gundam Scad Hammers. Will this game be better than the critically bashed Gundam Crossfire on the PS3? Read on to find out.
The first thing you will notice about Scad Hammers is the cartoonish and cutesy presentation. Robots are deformed and presented in a tiny, big headed and cute way. Gundam for kids? The game takes a new artistic approach and everything from the robots to the buildings is rendered this way. How will Gundam fans react to the new art direction is left to be seen.
The control scheme fully utilizes the Wii-mote's capabilities. The control stick of the nunchuck is used to move your mech around. Boosts are done with the Z Button and Charge Attacks with the C button. The remote will control the giant, spiked wrecking ball that serves as your robot's primary weapon. You can swing the ball in any direction and the stronger your swing, the more devastating the attack you perform. Holding down the Trigger button of the remote and swinging it will allow you to perform a swing attack capable of attacking multiple foes. The A Button is used to defend from attacks and a combination of the A and Trigger Buttons leads to a special energized version of the spin attack.
Your Gundam has two bars you need to watch, the health bar, which will deplete when you take damage and your energy bar, which depletes as you perform special attacks. Smashing crates, buildings and other objects leads to health and energy pick ups that restore these bars and also to weapon and shield upgrades. Your Gundam also can be leveled up, which makes you more powerful.
With it's unique artistic style and shall we say, "childlish" approach to the Gundam series, Scad Hammers looks like a must play game. We will keep you informed as development progresses.
