Lost in Blue 2 (DS) Preview
Posted by Ramon Aranda on 03.06.2007

One of the earliest Nintendo DS titles to take advantage of the handheld's capabilities was Konami's Lost in Blue. In the game, players were stuck on a deserted island, eager to find a way off the island whilst trying to stay alive long enough to achieve that goal. Controlling the main character, you could explore the vast island in search of clues, food and shelter. You also had to try and keep your companion alive (whom you discover early in the game). Lost in Blue was a great title to show off some of the DS' capabilities by allowing players to not only use the touch screen but the built-in microphone.

Using the touch screen, players could dig in the sand, go fishing, shake down trees and make artifacts among other things. The microphone allowed you to start fires by simply blowing gently on it to get the smoke going. Ultimately, though an interesting experience, the game proved to be a bit on the stale side. The experience quickly became repetitive as not much time would pass until you had to feed yourself and your worthless companion to stay alive. It was tough to explore the island as your friend just simply could not keep up.

Konami is soon releasing Lost in Blue 2 which I understand lets players choose from two different characters from the start. Basically you are stranded on a deserted island once again but this time, the developers are looking to incorporate more functionality to the sequel. (You can fight off animals for instance...pretty cool)
With a late March release, players will get a chance shortly to see if this second offering is a little meatier and less of a repetitive hassle.

Stay tuned to 411mania for my full review later this month...unless I'm stuck on an island.
