Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Wii) Preview
Posted by Ramon Aranda on 05.15.2007

As we all know, there are thousands of Harry Potter lovers that would die for the chance to be like him. Well if Electronic Arts has their way, all those fans may finally get the opportunity to don the robe and wand and become Harry (no pun intended) himself.

At EA's Summer Preview this past Wednesday, we were given a sneak peek at what we can expect from the newest installment of the Harry Potter franchise.

For starters, the game will only feature a single player mode so there won't be any kind of co-op or multiplayer mini-games. The game will be relatively long as players will have the main story to deal with as well as side quests along the way. The story will take place mainly inside the Hogwartz castle but rather than having a linear style of play, Order of the Phoenix will allow players to explore and play the game in any order they choose.

Both the nunchuck and remote will be utilized to play the game. Players will be able to lock-on to an object using their wands/Wii remote by pointing at it and using the B-button/trigger to lift it up. By making a pushing motion you can fling the object in front of you and likewise, making a pulling movement will lunge the item behind you.

My sparkler totally owns!

Graphically the game looks pretty decent though its still in the middle of development. The graphics engine makes excellent use of lighting effects and the character models have all been digitally scanned as to portray their faces accurately. The game will run at 480p with 16:9 widescreen support.

From the short time we spent with EA's newest Harry Potter game, the controls worked pretty well and fans will surely have a good time. With a few months left in development, we'll have to sit tight and see if EA makes any other tweaks or changes to the game but for the meantime, all you fans can rest easy knowing that Order of the Phoenix looks promising.
