DiRT (Xbox 360) Preview

Release Date 06/12/2007

After just recently spending a little bit of time with Codemasters' DiRT, I can honestly say that this is one of the most spectacular looking games out there.

This appears to be the Codemasters' answer to Motorstorm for the PS3.

The demo I played gave me the option of choosing three distinct vehicles, one of them being a doom buggy. Like most of the racing titles on the Xbox 360, the controls were easy to pick up and each vehicle had different mechanics and physics which made them unique.

At first glance, you'll notice how gorgeous the game looks with its photo-realistic graphics. Though I don't have the specifics as far as frames per second, the game ran rather smoothly without any major hiccups.
I also noticed how my car slowly ripped apart each time I crashed which added to the level of detail.

Using my surround sound, I notice detailed sound effects, from the roaring of my engine to the small particles that kicked up in the dirt.

This game seems like a perfect fit for the Xbox 360 Racing Wheel, as switching to a first person perspective really adds to the atmosphere and you really do feel like you're driving one of the vehicles.

I was only able to try out three different tracks which included a mountain road, a standard race track, and a dirt track which forced you to use the buggy and I'd have to say that the buggy ride was definitely my favorite.

DiRT is schedule to release this month, and you should definitely keep an eye out for this one!

Stay tuned for 411mania's review in the coming weeks.
