The Club (PS3, Xbox 360) Preview
Posted by Armando Rodriguez on 11.26.2007

One of the classic games from years past is Smash TV. It was a very violent shooter with the premise that everything was being filmed for TV and that your character was a gladiator in a futuristic arena trying to survive. The Club, Bizarre Creations and Sega's next game is quite like that.

Bizarre Creations is the same people behind Project Gotham Racing. The premise behind most racing titles is to find the perfect line in a track and drive it perfectly in order to shave off seconds of your time and get the best lap possible. For The Club, Bizarre Creations seeks to incorporate this same mentality into the action-shooter genre.

The story behind The Club involves a secret gladiatorial combat league organized by rich and powerful people. Eight combatants are recruited, either voluntarily or involuntarily and forced to fight to the death for the amusement of the rich. It sounds just like the plot to The Condemned doesn't it?

The game has an arcade feel. You need to approach every level with the mentality to do everything as fast as possible. You have a score multiplier and in order to keep it going you need to kill everyone as fast and efficiently as possible. Speed and accuracy are the name of the game. For replay value, the developers are counting on players trying to find that "perfect line" that allows you to get the best score possible, just like you would do in a racing game.

In a world where gaming is getting more complex and involved, The Club takes gaming back to its roots, where games where simple and getting the best score possible was the ultimate goal. The Club is set to be released on February 2008.
