SEGA delves into the fishing market with some impressive screenshots and trailer.
It's no secret that the recreational sports market in video games is a long and storied one with a load of minimal success in achieving quality. Hunting and fishing games seem to be everywhere from Target to Game Stop to Wal-Mart and the shelves usually contain a helping of $9.99 reduced versions of games that were initially priced at the going rate of $29.99 to $49.99, but due to poor quality and the inherent lack of sales that followed, the second batch released were in simplistic versions of a single CD for the PC versions, anyway.
It's a tough market to crack and with a lot of competition and low quality all the way around, it's a difficult market to make any money at. However, with a system such as Nintendo's Wii floating out there these days, it's not hard to see why developer's are taking a new stab at the genre.
This brings us to today's preview – SEGA Bass Fishing for the Wii.
Cousin Billy got him a big ‘un there. Yup.
The new game from SEGA of America and Cavia boasts some good looking graphics for the Wii system and early indications show the game is progressing well. While the game is currently scheduled for release late this year or early next year, the game trailer provided to us by SEGA shows the game looking pretty fun thus far.
Here is the rundown of the game provided directly from SEGA:
• Four fun-filled modes. Arcade, Tournament, Practice and Nature Trip modes.
• 15 stages. Find your favorite fishing spot in seven brand new stages created exclusively for the Wii or re-live your glory fishing days in four classic arcade and four Dreamcast stages.
• Four types of bass. Hook four breeds of bass: Florida Large Mouth, Red Eye, Small Mouth and Northern Spike Large Mouth.
• Improved graphics. This classic title first made a splash in the arcades and now the graphics have been updated for the Wii.
• Authentic simulated fishing experience. New features have been created to take full advantage of the Wii Remote, including driving the boat with the control stick and reeling in your fish with the motion sensor.
• Relive the excitement of hooking a big one from the comfort of your couch.
• Game returns to it's popular roots with intuitive controls utilizing the Wii Remote and Nunchuk – feel the fish nibble on the line, use the Wii Nunchuk movement to scoop up the fish with a net.
• 20 types of lures.
When you latch on to one of these puppies, it fights to stay in the water and you'd better be careful not to fight back too hard … your line will break and it will all be for nothing.
