Featuring destructible enviroments!
Battlefield: Bad Company will be the first entry in the battlefield series for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. The game will feature a single player story mode and a multiplayer component. Here are some details on both modes.
The single player story is inspired by movies like Three Kings. You play as a squad of soldiers that is motivated by gold and their own agenda and thus, end up doing things that are not in the army's mission briefings. That's how you end up invading a fictional country known as Serkozache. There will be multiple ways to approach each mission to add replay value. Do you move in stealthy, or do you barge in guns blazing? That's up to you. The missions in the single player game will take place in large environments, just like in the multiplayer Battlefield games on the PC. The games A.I. will be set pretty high in the single player game to replicate the feeling of the multiplayer battles.
The most talked about innovation is the destructible environments. Every piece of the scenery is as vulnerable to explosions and gunfire as you are. Bullets won't be able to penetrate building walls, but a well-placed rocket will carve a hole in the structure and allow you to make your own doors. This solves one of the most unrealistic and common problems of the PC games: People used to hide inside buildings from tank shells and artillery strikes. Now that building will crumble to pieces! Like in a real battlefield, you better keep moving because there are no guaranteed safe heavens anymore. 90% of the environment will be destructible and although the foundations of buildings will remain, doors, windows, walls and ceilings will crumble if you have enough firepower.
The main multiplayer mode is Gold Rush. The attacking team is charged with destroying large crates of gold while the defending team must do the opposite. The defenders have infinite respawns, but the attackers earn more respawns by capturing gold crates. It works within the context of the game as the more gold you capture, the more "reinforcements"(respawns) you are able to purchase. This mode works like the capture-the-checkpoint modes in the previous games, but with a twist. Usually defending is accomplished by finding a good spot with plenty of cover and waiting to ambush the attackers. But with the destructible environments, everyone is forced to keep moving because all this cover spots can and will be blown apart. The final version will feature 24 players per game.
Battlefield: Bad Company looks like a great entry in the series and another must-have First Person Shooter. We will keep you updated on it's progress.
I got in the beta and its pretty good. You cant party up so that kind of sucks but the explosions are cool. A lot of lag but that is why they are doin it I guess.
