Crysis Warhead (PC) Preview
Posted by Chris Vicari on 09.22.2008

Crysis, the 2007 FPS which received immense critical acclaim and numerous awards, is back and this time you play the role of Sergeant Michael "Psycho" Sykes, a secondary character from the previous game. Instead of being part of the Crysis trilogy, Warhead is considered a standalone expansion and its story runs parallel to Nomad's jungle romp in the original Crysis. Instead of saving hostages and exploring caves, Psycho is tasked to retrieve a KPA nuclear warhead which is stashed somewhere on the island. Warhead has already received high praise by many reviewers out there, so look for the same visual bliss and heart-pumping action that was prevalent in the previous game.

What's new?

Crysis Warhead showcases the new and updated version of CryEngine 2 allowing the game to look even better than it did before, but run much more smoothly and having the same exact system requirements as the original Crysis to boot. Expect new customizable weapons, new and easier to control vehicles and smarter enemies. Battles are also more frequent and better paced than in the original Crysis, which was criticized for having its battles few and far between.

Also shipping with Warhead is Crysis Wars, an included yet free game which focuses on Crysis' multiplayer potential. Along with the usual Instant Action and Power Struggle modes, Team Instant Action mode is now included which is basically team deathmatch. There are also 21 more maps to play on and Crytek has made numerous tweaks and fixes to already stellar multiplayer content including weapon balancing and nanosuit alterations.

Crysis is shaping up to be one phenomenal FPS franchise and the more we get to play it the better. Hopefully we'll be seeing Crysis 2 sometime in the near future.
