Another chance to relive a classic
Back in 1992, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past finally made it's debut in North America for the Super Nintendo System. Dubbed as one of the best games of all-time it's unfortunate that a lot of younger gamers today never got the chance to play it. With the "golden ticket" that is the Wii's Virtual Console, players can finally visit the land of Hyrule, SNES style.
Players as usual, assume the role of Link as he attempts to find Princess Zelda who has been kidnapped by the evil sorcerer Aghanim. I'll refrain from getting too much into the storyline as not to spoil anything for those who haven't played it. The game introduced a lot of new items that have remained in the series since, such as the mirror shield, the use of bottles and the legendary hookshot. The world is huge and players will find that there are tons of areas to explore and people to talk to. The sheer amount of hidden items is large and players will have to look through every nook and cranny to find all the different goodies found in Hyrule.
Even today, the game looks very pretty. Though not at the peak of the SNES' graphical capabilities, the game looks vibrant in colors and presents a very detailed overworld. A Link to the Past features some of the coolest soundtracks and gamer's still enjoy some of its themes. What's so intriguing is that the game itself is a pretty lengthy and holds excellent replay value. Just when you think you've got the game beat, you'll find that there's plenty more to do. This was also the first Zelda to feature cut scenes to explain some of the history of Hyrule and its people.
The 411: Do yourself a favor and download this game (assuming you don't already own it). It's great just to have the convenience of not having to dust off the SNES not to mention that it looks pretty good w/the Wii's emulation. At 800 Wii points it's a pretty good deal and you'll find yourself playing this one over and over.
