Mad Ramblings of a Movie Geek 05.06.09: Summer Movie Trailers - June
Posted by Jordan Bruns on 05.06.2009
It's a pretty quiet month for summer releases, but there are still a few potential blockbusters...
Welcome to this week's Mad Ramblings of a Movie Geek! I was absent last week but I'm pretty sure no one cares. (See, I can make fun of myself, I'm a role model for children everywhere!) It's time once again to talk about some of the summer movie releases. By now X-Men Origins: Wolverine has hit theaters and is raking in the dough as we speak. Star Trek, Angels and Demons, and Terminator: Salvation are soon to follow. With four summer movie releases occurring in May, what does the month of June have to offer? Actually, not a whole lot this year, unless you just can't wait for Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds in The Proposal. Really, other than the new Transformers flick, there aren't a lot of potential summer blockbusters coming out next month, other than Land of the Lost. I've managed to include those two, along with one other one, in this week's column.
This week Mad Ramblings presents Summer Movie Trailers- June…
My Mad Ramblings
This is a highly anticipated release. The original Trnaformers was one of 2007's biggest hits, and if this trailer is any indications, fans will get what they expect and then some. There looks to be a lot of action, and the special effects are once again top notch. It's hard to believe Shia LeBeouf almost lost his hand during filming. I foresee this being a huge smash, though it's too early to tell what the #1 summer blockbuster of 2009 will be.
My Mad Ramblings
A movie based on a TV show? Hmm… that's never happened before. Never once in the history of cinema has there been a movie based on a TV show. No, sir. It's never happened. This is one of the most revolutionary movies ever made…
OK, I'm done being a dick. This movie looks like it could actually work. Will Ferrell has suffered from a severe case of overexposure as of late, but this role is a departure from his usual shtick. Granted, it's not too much of a departure because he's still being Will Ferrell, but it's different enough that it might refresh him in the minds of viewers who are tired of seeing him play the same role all the time (read: me). And Danny McBride is in it, too! But I wonder if he can be funny and family friendly at the same time.
My Mad Ramblings
For those of you thinking this doesn't have blockbuster potential, think again. Ok, yes, it's remake of an obscure Walter Matthau flick, but it's Tony Scott, man! He's been pretty much absent from the summer movie market since Crimson Tide, but we're still talking about the man who brought us Top Gun. I'm also excited about the first ever pairing of Travolta and Denzel, though it looks like most of their time is spent communicating over the radio. I think Tony Scott will deliver yet again, as he did so many times in the ‘80's and early ‘90's, even without Jerry Bruckheimer producing. Looks like Denzel better remember the milk!
That's it for the June summer movie trailers. It's a pretty small load of typical summer releases, but audiences will need time to recover from all the huge popcorn movies coming out in May.
