The Total Request Photo News Brief! Edition...
Welcome everyone to the latest edition of the UBS Evening Movie News. I'm George H. Sirois, and I have some good news. Today was my first day at the new job. It's a part-time gig, so it won't make as much money as I would like, and it's not an office job like my last four positions, but it gets me out of the apartment and it will likely play a great part in dropping some of the weight that I've been carrying around since I was at my last job.
There's another downside, however, for this week. I came home very satisfied with my work, but also exhausted as hell. So I'm gonna save my "Mad Prophet of the Airwaves" rant for another week. Besides, Cheryl and I feel the need to see Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince again to see if it was really unlike everything that we've heard from the majority of critics. We came out of the theater wondering if we had seen the same movie that's been getting so many good reviews, and we both feel somewhat compelled to give it another chance. So we'll see about this next week, and this week, I'll be passing the reigns of the main event off to my comrade Andy Critchell. As promised, he's got a great crop of reader's choice photos for you.
If you're on Twitter, you can find me HERE! And don't forget, for all of you who are new to 411Mania.com, make sure you check out all of our zones. UPCOMING MOVIES
Orphan: A husband (Peter Sarsgaard) and wife (Vera Farmiga) who recently lost their baby adopt a young girl (Isabelle Fuhrman) who is not nearly as innocent as she claims to be.
This seemed like it was going to just come and go as a basic horror flick, but then adoption agencies started the protests, and that's only going to guarantee ticket sales. When will these people learn? If they want to get rid of a movie, why don't they just ignore it?
The Ugly Truth: A romantically challenged morning show producer (Katherine Heigl) is reluctantly embroiled by her chauvinistic correspondent (Gerard Butler) in a series of outrageous tests to prove his theories on relationships and help her find love.
So THIS is what this movie's about? Eh, I didn't care anyway.

Oh, boy! Have I got some news for you guys regarding various incarnations of Star Trek, including the new film coming to DVD! Three versions of the 2009 sequel / prequel / piece of sci-fi brilliance are coming. I'm talking a single disc, a double disc and (this is where I get jealous) a three-disc Blu-Ray set.
I'll let the webmaster from DVDReview.com take it from here...
The single disc DVD comes with the film as well as an audio commentary with director J.J. Abrams, writers Robert Orci and Alex Kurtzman and producers Damon Lindelof and Bryan Burk, the featurette "A New Vision" and a gag reel.
A two disc DVD will additionally include a digital copy of the film along with deleted scenes and the featurettes To Boldly Go, Casting, Aliens and Score, plus DVD Rom content including previews for the DAC game.
The Blu-ray will come on three discs, the first dics containing the film and comentary along with the BD-Live feature NASA News. The second disc contains the featurettes above as well as the aditional featurettes Planets, Props and Costumes, Ben Burtt and the Sounds of Star Trek and Gene Roddenberry's Vision along with the deleted scenes and gag reel. a 3D tour of the ships is also available. The third disc contains the digital copy and trailers for Star Trek D-A-C for X-Box, PC and PS3.
The discs all arrive on November 17th, 2009.
Not bad, right? BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE! Season Two of "Star Trek: The Original Series" is coming to Blu-Ray on September 22nd. It's likely that the extras will be the same set that came out on Standard DVD last year. And this part is really cool. iPhone users can download data to their iPhones.
Even more good news! The same day that the second season is released, the Star Trek: The Next Generation movies will be re-released on both Standard and Blu-Ray. It looks like all of the same extras on the set that was released a few years ago, but the new set comes with a fifth bonus disc that includes several featurettes: "The Evolution of The Enterprise," "Villains of Star Trek," "I Love the Star Trek Movies," "Farewell to Star Trek: The Experience," "Klingon Encounter," "Borg Incasion 4D" and "Charting the Final Frontier."
Both sets arrives on September 22nd.

JIM WEBBING AND HIS IT'S THE HONEST TRUTH DEPARTMENT
Hopefully the time off reminded these guys how good the first season writing was: Comedy Central is working on a movie version of its cult show "Drawn Together" that is set for a 2010 video release.
"The Drawn Together Movie: The Movie!" was unveiled Wednesday by Lauren Corrao, president, original programming and development, Comedy Central.
The network said that the straight-to-DVD release currently in production will be "the first animated film based on the 'Drawn Together' series." It will be released by Comedy Central Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment in March.
Both are units of entertainment giant Viacom Inc.
"'Drawn Together's' reunion with Comedy Central is like marrying an old ex-girlfriend," said quipped creators, writers and executive producers Matt Silverstein and Dave Jeser. "I mean, are we doing this because we love each other and are destined to be together? Or is it because neither one of us could do any better? As is often the case, it's probably both."
Corrao lauded the duo's "twisted sensibility that is completely uninhibited and admirable." She added: "Without the constraints of producing for basic cable, this movie will showcase their chops the way fans of the show have been waiting for."
The film's plot: When the mystery-solving musician Foxxy notices she and her fellow housemates can suddenly curse without being bleeped, they realize that their show has been cancelled and start fighting to get it back on the air.
A "Drawn Together Movie: The Movie!" panel will be held at Comic-Con in San Diego on Thursday.
"Drawn Together" premiered on Comedy Central in Oct. 2004 and aired for three seasons and 36 episodes.
I got a lot of enjoyment out of the first season, but unfortunately the show became very hit-and-miss the rest of the way, more miss than hit. (The Boogie Nights parody was hilarious, though.) That being said, now that the creators have had some time away from the show for a little while, hopefully they can conjure up the creative juices for this movie that made the first season so good. I got my fingers crossed, although I probably won't need to since I'll just rent this from Netflix either way.

Consider my interlocks activated: Atlas Entertainment's Charles Roven, Richard Suckle and Steve Alexander are ready to form "Voltron."
The producers behind "Get Smart" and "The International" (and Roven of course also produced "The Dark Knight) have acquired the rights to make a live-action feature based on the robot-lion property, pushing the project forward after several years in development with the Mark Gordon Company.
Roven and his partners acquired rights to the Japanese title from World Events Prods., a St. Louis-based company that has held those rights for more than two decades. "Wanted" producer Jason Netter of Kickstart Entertainment and World Events' Ted Koplar are joining the Atlas trio in producing.
"Voltron," a television hit in the 1980's that has retained a loyal fan following, features a "Transformers"-like conceit, in which a band of five robot-lions combine to form one super lion. A group of five pilots control the lions, which are charged with defending the planet Arus from villain King Zarkon, who dispatches evil creatures called Robobeats to fight the Voltron robots.
This makes me happy for one single reason: Mark Gordon is no longer involved with Voltron! I don't know if you guys knew of what Gordon had in mind for this character, but he saw the "Defender of the Universe" - the savior of Planet Arus - in a post-apocalyptic New York City. Now, ask yourself, what does Voltron have to do with New York City? Other than selling the toys in the Times Square Toys-R-Us, NOTHING!
All I can do is hope that the Atlas trio sees the character a little differently. I'll re-phrase that, all I can do is hope that the Atlas trio sees the character the way he should be seen. On Planet Arus.

A small piece of news, but definitely worth reporting: Kaare Andrews has signed on to direct the action film "The Hunted," based on his original screenplay.
"The Hunted" is the story of an assassin in his 20s who is hired to kill a young girl but refuses to complete the contract.
Valhalla Motion Pictures' Gale Anne Hurd is producing, with Illuminati Entertainment's Ford Lytle Gilmore as exec producer.
A graphic novelist and artist, Andrews, repped by Pacific Artists and Aperture Entertainment, is currently in post-production on the supernatural thriller "Altitude," featuring Jessica Lowndes and Julianna Guill.
All I want to say about this news piece is that there is an original film that's going to be made. And kudos to Andrews for making this happen in this day and age. The story sounds like a simple one that can be told very effectively. I'm hoping everything comes through and the right person gets attached to the project.

Broadway gets a little creepy and kooky: Charles Addams' ghoulish clan has locked down some prime real estate to haunt, with new tuner "The Addams Family" set to open at Broadway's Lunt Fontanne Theater on April 8.
The venue for one of the most hotly anticipated musicals of the season has been a badly kept secret for weeks now, especially since Disney announced it would close the current Lunt-Fontanne tenant, "The Little Mermaid," Aug. 30. The 1,500-seat theater is one of a handful of Rialto houses in the immediate Times Square radius to benefit from maximum tourist foot traffic.
Phelim McDermott and Julian Crouch, the British directing and design team behind cult show "Shockheaded Peter" and Philip Glass opera "Satyagraha," will make their Broadway debuts helming the musical, with tunes by Andrew Lippa ("The Wild Party") and book by "Jersey Boys" scribes Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, adapted from Addams' iconic cartoons. Sergio Trujillo ("Next to Normal") is choreographer.
Nathan Lane and Bebe Neuwirth star as Gomez and Morticia, whose family is put to the test when outsiders arrive for dinner. Cast also features Terrence Mann, Carolee Carmello, Kevin Chamberlin, Jackie Hoffman, Zachary James, Adam Riegler, Wesley Taylor and Krysta Rodriguez.
Following a tryout run at Chicago's Ford Center for the Performing Arts, Oriental Theater that begins perfs Nov. 13, the tuner starts previewing March 4 on Broadway.
Damn, Broadway's really pulling out the stops now, aren't they? Can't blame them, since they're almost as creatively bankrupt as Hollywood is these days. Disney can't stop remaking its own movies. Mel Brooks tried to make lightning strike twice with Young Frankenstein. And I would bring up the atrocity of High Fidelity: The Musical, but it disappeared quicker than Lestat.
Now we not only have two proven stars of the stage headlining a show with a very familiar cast of characters, and if the director's as much of a visionary as Julie Taymor, then they just might have something. But just like the two movies based on the comic strip and television show, this version has to go above and beyond its predecessors. Hopefully this will do that, but I don't know.

That's cool to hear about Drawn Together. The first season was really good, and majority of second season was great too except for a couple of duds. Hopefully they can forget all about every idea they had for season 3, other than to ignore them all(outside of the Terminator episode and the Captain Retard episode).

'The film's plot: When the mystery-solving musician Foxxy notices she and her fellow housemates can suddenly curse without being bleeped, they realize that their show has been cancelled and start fighting to get it back on the air."
Okay that actually sounds amusing.
