Two Tivos To Paradise 10.09.09: A Long Weekend's Worth of TV News
Posted by Al Norton on 10.09.2009

Hello Friends. We've been enjoying some incredible fall weather here in New England which, combined with the baseball playoffs make this far and away my favorite time of year. I am not so crazy about the Sox playing on the West Coast but a 9:30 first pitch is a lot better than it could have been.

Want to take a note to thank all the Law and Order: CI fans for their comments last week; I love when people show passion for their favorite shows. Clearly you all disagree with my assessment that the show can survive without Vincent D'Onofrio, but I would ask you if you would all stop watching if it turned out he left by choice? The rumor that he was let go by the network is just that, a rumor, and probably will never be confirmed. Also, as far as I know, it's not like ratings dropped in the weeks where Goren was not the primary detective, so fans have shown at least some interest in a version of Criminal Intent without him. I am in total agreement that the show will not be the same without him but I am not sure that means it's done. It's even possible some folks didn't like his character and might be more interested in giving a new version of the show a chance. Those of you who are interested in letting USA know how disappointed you are with the cast changes might want to check out www.savinggorenandeamesnow.blogspot.com

Any of you readers who are aspiring actors should take note; if you are 18-22 and can pass for 16-17, Fox may want you! The team behind That 70's Show is working on a new show about teens growing up in modern day Buffalo, NY, and want some fresh faces to populate the cast. If you think you've got what it takes than go to www.tvpilotopencall.com, fill out the form, and you can record your audition via computer and upload immediately. Even better, the site gives you tips on who the characters are and the ways to ensure a great take. Good luck!

You're always where you're supposed to be and when you're not you're with some underworld spy or the news of a close friend (news of a close friend).

I Saw Him Dancin' There By The Record Machine, I Knew He Must Have Been About 17
Weeks after winning its second straight Best Comedy Emmy 30 Rock returns to the NBC line-up this Thursday at 9:30 pm. The series, thought of as a one-and-done sure thing after its first few weeks, has grown to produce solid ratings to go with critical acclaim and enough award statuettes to fill a mini-van and now seems like one of the building blocks of the network's line up.

I have seen the first two episodes of the season and am here to say they do not disappoint. Along with the best use of the "too soon" punch line I have heard in sometime, you will also find a page strike, Will Arnet, uterus jokes, a classic Tracy Jordan/Morgan meltdown, and the release of Liz Lemon's book among the first 60 minutes of the season.
Wait, did I mention the porn movie shoot?

Fans of 30 Rock will not be in any way disappointed with the start of the season, episodes that remind you why the show so richly deserves all the gold it has taken home.

Many A Tear Has To Fall But It's All In The Game
Next week marks Versus' Sports Soup one year anniversary. We caught up with host Matt Iseman to discuss the milestone.

TTTP: Congratulations on your one year anniversary! Be honest, after the very long process it took to get the job, did you think you'd be getting to this point?

Matt Iseman: Since I'd already blown my signing bonus on hiring a Journey cover band to play my birthday party, I certainly hoped we'd make it a year. Now I'm looking to hire Whitesnake this year. Not a cover band, but the real Whitesnake.

You never know how a show will do until it's actually out there, but the thing I liked about Sports Soup is that it is a show I'd watch. Still, most shows never even make it to air, let alone last a season so, while we're not Cal Ripken yet, it's nice to keep the streak alive.

TTTP: How much different is the show in its current form from episode one?

Matt Iseman: Well, I think the big difference is we're far more current in our focus. When we started out, we covered a plethora of sports, some of which were less than mainstream... say, bow hunting for example. The clips were funny, but I think we're better served by covering the big sports and the big stories as they happen. I think we can do what most other sports shows can't do, and that is we get to say what everyone is thinking without having to play favorites or worry about offending a league or losing access. Not everyone can put a plastic funnel collar on Michael Vick... we can.

Adding walk-on's from actual athletes and hot women has certainly helped as well, but overall the show hasn't changed that much in that we're still just sports fans who watch a lot of sports and then show you what made us laugh.

TTTP: Give me a few of your favorite moments from year one? FYI - I'd have to go with the various puppets as well as you getting hit in the face with a squid.

Matt Iseman: Getting a raw squid in the face multiple times made me feel the same way I do at Clippers games... you just have to sit there and get slimy raw fish slapped in your face. And yet, I am a season ticket holder.

Interviewing Shaq, Kobe, Lebron... very cool, but the highlight was Mike Tyson. Such a big figure in my youth as both an athlete and a video game character, and he was not at all what I expected. And he didn't punch me, so technically, I went toe to toe with Mike Tyson and lived therefore my college roommates owe me a million dollars.

It was great running into Matt Kemp at the ESPYs and hearing that the Dodgers watch the show in the clubhouse. I was worried for a second, but then I realized, Manny probably thought we were making fun of another Manny.

TTTP: Any moments you'd like to have back?

Matt Iseman: Hmmm... maybe that stolen kiss with Shaq? No real do-overs... there are some things I could've done better or different, but nothing I'd change. Actually, scratch that... during the interview with Gina Carano, I asked for only a partial tapout. Next time, I'll go for the full boat.

TTTP: How has the show affected the rest of your career? Have you noticed new fans coming out to your stand-up gigs? Will you be asked back for Transformers 3?

Matt Iseman: Well, having been on Clean House for almost 4 years now, I have a certain demographic covered... and while a surprising number of them do like sports, there's a new segment of people who know now about me through Sports Soup. The stand up has had a nice boost from Sports Soup as the audience is a little more of the comedy club type. It's nice having people come to the club not just to see comedy but to see me. The shows have been great, and after, it's nice to meet the fans.

TTTP: Here's your chance to expand your audience; tell me why someone who has yet to check out Sports Soup might want to give it a shot?

Matt Iseman: Watching Sports Soup right now is a little like watching Jordan in his early years with the Bulls... crazy raw talent, flashes of brilliance and lots of tongue. So tune in now because the dynasty is about to start. Besides, someone needs to relentless mock Michael Vick, Lou Holtz and NBA officiating.

Don't miss Sports Soup, Tuesdays at 10 pm on Versus

They'll Be Standing In Line For Those Old Honky Tonk Monkey Shines
Showtime has given a six episode order to Behind The Green Room Door, a series that finds famous comedians talking about their craft. Hosted by stand up Paul Provenza, each half hour episode will feature four stand up's discussing comedy in front of a live studio audience. Those set to appear include Jonathan Winters, Andy Dick, Martin Mull, Robert Klein, Bob Saget, Sandra Bernhardt, Drew Carey, Rosanne Barr, Penn Jillette, and Tommy Smothers.

I just finished reading Comedy On The Edge by Richard Zoglin, a fantastic look at the comedy explosion in the 1970's that features many of those taking part in this project, so this series sounds great to me. Along with the big names listed above there will be younger, more up –and-coming talent mixed in as well, so there is almost guaranteed to be enough laughs to make it worth your while to tune in.

Your Mind Was Getting High On The Sweet Air As Your Spirit Was Flying
Before Battlestar Galactica alum Katee Sackhoff joins the cast of 24 for the new season she is taking part in AIDS Walk LA next Sunday, forming The Frak Ups team along with fellow BSG'er Tricia Helfer. We caught up with Katee via email this week to chat about the walk and see if we could get some 24 secrets from her.

TTTP: How did you get involved with AIDS Walk LA?

Katee: I became involved when I saw a flier in a doctors office. I've always wanted to do the walk but have been out of town for about 6 yrs on BSG so this is the first opportunity I've had. The Aids Walk is a great way to continue to address and raise awareness for a disease that affects so many people worldwide.

TTTP: When did Tricia Helfer become part of the plan? Any chance some other BSG alums show up for the walk? Any truth to the rumor you'll be doing the walk in full Kara Thrace gear?

Katee: Tricia was interested in doing the walk from the very beginning so I kind of knew she was going to sign up for the team. She and I seem to be attached at the hip these days!! I don't know if anyone else from BSG is going to join. David Weddle and his wife Risa are on the team, Tom Lieber an executive from USA and a good friend, is walking.

I've bribed everyone with food and Mimosas after the walk!! Then again the Spike Scream awards are the night before and I may be half asleep!! Ha ha.

NOOOO!!!! I will NOT be wearing Starbuck's clothes!! That's crazy talk!!

TTTP: Aside from sponsoring a great cause, is there another possible upside of contributing? This is where you shamelessly plug your giveaway :-)

Katee: I've also bribed fans to contribute by raffling off a signed season 4.0 DVD. I know no shame when its for a good cause!

TTTP: Give me some 24 scoop! How long do we have to wait to see you out of the office kicking some ass in the field? Can you promise me your character won't just disappear into thin air at the end of the season?

Katee: I cannot divulge any 24 secrets......Jack Bauer would have me killed!!! : )

If you are interested in sponsoring Katee in the walk – and potentially winning an autographed season 4 BSG DVD set – go to www.aidswalk.net/losangeles, click "Take Action", select "sponsor a walker", type Katee Sackhoff, and give whatever you can.

But The Wheels Just Turn Down The Road Ahead, If It Hurts At All You Ain't Showed It Yet
NBC stopped production of Southland on Thursday, canceling the show after six episodes of the new season had been filmed. The show was originally scheduled to make it's season two premiere in September but the network announced in late August that it had pushed that date back to late October. Dateline will continue to run in the Friday at 9 pm timeslot.

Well this just sucks, and on a number of levels. Sure, this is a loss for fans of quality television as Southland was a very good show that grew got better every week last spring, it's the cast is royally screwed; if they had just been canceled than everyone could have gone out for other roles in time for the fall but now they are unemployed at a point in the calender where the industry isn't hiring.

Speculation has already started that this move is purely finacial, with Dateline a MUCH cheaper show to produce than Southland, and NBC feeling the pinch with The Jay Leno Show dropping more and more each night and new series Trauma and Mercy hardly putting up impressive numbers. The situation for NBC looks to get worse before it gets better.

But You Were Up To Your Old Tricks In Chapters Four Five And Six
All you need to know about the Nielsen's for the past week or so…We will be continuing what we tried last week, breaking the ratings down by night…

Thursday
FlashForward had a strong second week, dropping only 8% and tying Survivor for the demo lead for the 8:00 hour…Grey's Anatomy was down 10% but dominated in the key demos, meaning Grey's and CSI have settled into the same dance they've done for the last two seasons (CSI wins total audience, Grey's win demos)…Digging a bit deeper, CSI's 15.6 million was down from week two last year while Grey's 15.4 million was an increase from that same time…Private Practice easily topped The Mentalist in the demos with its best outing that didn't involve a Grey's crossover…The Mentalist 15.2 million won the hour and was good for third overall for the night…Vampire Diaries and Supernatural continued to be steady performers, maintaining their audience week-to-week…SNL Thursday and Parks & Recreation improved a bit but were still solidly 4th for the hour…Community picked up a pick this week, holding on to a larger % of The Office audience…The Jay Leno Show tied its series low…5.8 million tuned in to The Late Show to see David Letterman tell his blackmail story…

Friday
Syfy was pleased with the 2.34 million who watched the series premiere of Stargate: Universe…The big story of Friday night was a 20% drop in Dollhouse's already low ratings, leading to speculation that this batch of episodes will be it for the Joss Whedon series…Smalville's Friday numbers are not great, even less so compared to what it was drawing last year on Thursdays…Medium was top scripted show of the night in the demos…

Monday
Monday Night Football's Packers-Vikings game set an ESPN record for the fourth week in a row and more importantly became the most watched telecast in cable television history with over 21 million viewers…House dropped a bit from last week but was still the night's top scripted show in the demos…Lie To Me showed some improvement over last week's unimpressive debut numbers…Heroes and Trauma both dropped 15% from last week, with Trauma's topping of Heroes total audience numbers being yet another sign that the superhero series is on its last legs…Dancing with the Stars was up big from last week, with roughly 18 million tuning in, helping lead out Castle to improve on last week as well…Accidently On Purpose is showing some cracks, holding on to less of it's How I Met Your Mother lead-in audience each week…The Big Bang Theory continues to sparkle in it's post-Two and a Half Men slot…One Tree Hill and Gossip Girl continue to chug along nicely, their audience not being affected in the slightest by the ups and downs of other programming…CSI: Miami won the network battle for 10:00 with 13 million…The Late Show was down slightly from last Thursday's high but the ratings were still light years above Dave's normal numbers and actually were better than anything in NBC's primetime lineup that night…The premiere of The Mo'Nique Show on BET drew an impressive 1.5 million, making it the network's top rated show of the season…

Tuesday
The news for The Mo'Nique Show got even better as 1.9 million tuned in on night two…Sons of Anarchy notched it's best outing since the season premiere, beating ABC's the forgotten and just about tying The Jay Leno Show on NBC…Each of CBS three shows were down on Tuesday but each still put up strong numbers; NCIS (20.7 million), NCIS: Los Angeles (16.31 million) and surprise hit The Good Wife (13.69 million) are more than producing for the network…The Biggest Loser continues to succeed, averaging 9.25 million over its two hours and pulling strong demos…,b>Melrose Place showed a ratings improvement for the first time in series history…Despite topping it in total viewers by over 6 million (11.8 to 5.5), Dancing with the Stars tied So You Think You Can Dance? in demos…The Twins-Tigers game on TBS was the most watched baseball telecast of 2009…

Wednesday

Turns Out Not Where But Who You're With That Really Matters
The top thing I watched since the last column went to press AKA The Best Of What's Around… I have been very vocal in my frustration with Entourage over the last two seasons - calling it either the worst good show or the best bad one – mainly because nothing ever seems to happen, so I thought it only fair that I single it our for praise when the finale last Sunday finally set some new wheels in motion.

Eric getting engaged certainly changes the dynamic of the group – always interesting to see what happens to a group of friends after the first one gets married – and gives them a season long wedding planning storyline to work with. Drama's new outlook on life seems to be working for him, and I can't wait to see him meeting with network executives to plan out his new series.

The best – and sappiest – part of the finale was Lloyd finally being rewarded for his years of indentured servitude to Ari by being named a full time agent. Let's hope this leads to more screen time for him next year. Hell, I would welcome a Drama and Lloyd-centric spinoff.

All that aside, the funniest moments of the episode were courtesy of an intense Matt Damon stalking Vince for a donation to his charity, capped by the post-credits scene I've embedded below…

All in all a highly entertaining 40 minutes from the gang and one that leaves me excited for the show's return.

People Say I'm Crazy Doing What I'm Doing. Well, They Give Me All Kinds Of Warnings To Save Me From Ruin
What's flashed before my eyes the last seven days…The Private Practice season premiere was so good it almost got the top honors of the week. Flashbacks have been so done to death that it was almost shocking to see them done in a new way; the transition shots were amazing. Also amazing was Tim Daly, who got a real showcase for his considerable acting talents…Two weeks into the Grey's Anatomy season and the show seems to have found its post-George legs. I am not sure about the merger storyline yet but it certainly shakes things up. So far the added screen time for Callie and Arizona has been a huge plus, and Kevin McKidd continues to prove his worth…The Curb episode that kicked off the Seinfeld reunion storyline proved two things; one, that Jason Alexander is quite funny despite most of his post-Seinfeld evidence to the contrary, and two, that Jerry is simply a terrible actor, even when playing himself. I thought it was great but did have a hard time buying the idea that Larry would have to apologize to get the Seinfeld reunion back on NBC's schedule since every network would be falling all over themselves to get the project…,b>Bored To Death's third episode was its strongest, and I wonder if it's a coincidence that there was no detective case in it. The therapy session was among the funnier things I watched all week. Also, is it just me or does Ted Danson seem to be having more fun than anyone else on TV?…Cougar Town is growing on me, mostly because of the sharp supporting cast. This week's episode was the strongest so far, mixing the series pension for strong sexual dialogue with some nice situational family comedy…Kristin Chenoweth blew me away on last week's Glee. With her Emmy win last month and this strong guest spot, why aren't networks developing projects for her?!?!?…Erika Christensen's performance on the season premiere of Lie To Me was the kind that makes you stand up and take notice. I hope her role on Parenthood becomes more fleshed out because in the pilot she didn't get any good Ghostbuster things to do…So You Committed A Crime And You Think You Can Dance? was the highlight of this week's SNL, which I will damn with faint praise by saying it was funnier than last week. Let me go on record as saying I don't understand all the Keenan hate out there. The guy makes me laugh and his Charles Barkley, Jean K Jean, and the prison inmate trying to scare some kids straight are among the show's best recurring characters/sketches right now…Speaking of So You Think You Can Dance?, I am much more hooked than in previous seasons, when it was more Mrs. Tivo watching and me being in the same room. The people are incredibly talented and success on this show can be the difference between packing it in and a career in dance…I gave FlashForward two full hours and just can't get over the bad acting. Yes, Joseph Fiennes is by far the worst offender – he couldn't be more wooden if he took acting Viagra – but the rest of the cast isn't much better. Maybe it's the stilted writing, maybe it's the stupidity of the shock that other folks might be investigating the black outs, maybe it's just that I haven't found a single character to care about but I am out…Last Thursday's Community was top notch, featuring a wonderful guest turn by John Michael Higgins. Let's see how it does in its new 8:00 pm timeslot…Speaking of great new comedy series, Modern Family just blows me away each week. Laugh out loud funny and they also have given just about every character some spotlight time…

TV Pick Of The Week
Gone Too Far, the reality series DJ AM was filming before his death earlier this year, premieres Monday at 10 pm on MTV. While the show will undoubtedly be tough to watch, especially for Adam Goldstein's fans, the hope is that airing it might actually do some good as the show, which features him trying to help addicts get clean, is even more of a cautionary tale than anyone every could have imagined.

Don't miss Gone Too Far, Monday at 10 pm on MTV.

Hope You Need My Love, Babe, Just Like I Need You
Here is some other noteworthy programming of the next seven days…

*Those of you who are up early should take note that Bravo is rerunning the last two episodes of season six of The West Wing, taking place at the Democratic National Convention where Congressman Santos is battling for the nomination. The second of the two episodes – 2162 Votes – contains a scene that made my list of Favorite All-Time TV Moments earlier this year, where Josh tells Leo who the VP pick is.

*If you're wondering were all the 10 -14 year olds are Friday night at 8 pm, they will be in front of their TV's watching the season premiere of Disney's Wizards of Waverly Place.

*The Dog Whisperer (Nat Geo, 9 pm) is back tonight with a new season.

*Shocking as it may be, the NBA season is right around the corner. How do I know? Because TNT bring you their first pre-season game of the year with the Warriors taking on the Suns Saturday at 9:30 pm. Welcome back, Sir Charles.

*Alton Brown celebrates the Good Eats 10th Anniversary by going all Jay Leno on us; Saturday's 10 pm special is live, with a house band, some guests, and some culinary fun.

*Army Wives wraps up its strongest season yet with more than a couple of cliffhangers this Sunday at 10 pm on Lifetime.

*Rick Springfield guests as himself on Californication this Sunday (10 pm, Showtime).

*The week's season finales include The Rachel Zoe Project (Monday, 10 pm, Bravo) and Hell's Kitchen (Tuesday, 8 pm, Fox).

*50 Cent gets the VH-1 Behind The Music treatment Tuesday at 8 pm.

*Dirty Jobs (Tuesday, 9 pm, Discovery) is back with host Mike Rowe taking on a whole new batch of rough and frequently ugly ways to make a living.

*Nip/Tuck returns with new episodes this Wednesday at 10 pm on FX. It will be interesting to see how the newly married Christian deals with the news that he is not dying. My guess? Lots of sex.

*Expect the kid gloves to be off when comedy legend Don Rickles visits Dave Letterman and The Late Show on Thursday (11:35 pm, CBS).

for nbc, that is great. especailly when you consider the majority of network scripted shows that are canceled after two airings or take a backseat to "ridiculous reality show celebrity dating challenge 8".

as for entourage, i always thought vince, E, and turtle were total douchebags. the saving graces on the show were lloyd, ari and drama. it was refreshing to see actual character development for all the main characters, except vince.

The thing is, a great many of us were watching the "alternate team" in order to support the WHOLE show. Without Goren and Eames, our PRIMARY reason for watching is gone. Also, the "he was let go" rumor is not really the popular opinion here. It is more like he wasn't given a true choice.

Want an easy way to fire someone without taking the heat and getting your hands dirty?

You offer them a really crappy contract that you know isn't going to fly, and wait for them to tell you to shove it.

Then you get to release a pretty little statement about them choosing "not to renew" said contract.

Clever, ain't it?

The ratings for Criminal Intent did go down when it was Goldblum episode. It was only a half a million to a 0.7 million difference each episode, though.

Yes, L&O: CI can survive without Goren & Eames, but it won't be Criminal Intent. VDO/Erbe are CI, just like Meloni/Hargitay are SVU. Without their characters, it's not the same good ole' Law and Order. USA/NBC are trying to turn CI into some dim-witted "Psych" or "Burn Notice". They have enough of that, leave CI the way it is!

There are legions of Jeff Goldblum fans too. Your assessment was totally spot on. Jeff doesn't need "legions" of fans to swoop to his defense. His work speaks for itself. Someone needs to recheck the ratings! Dick Wolf/USA want Jeff. End.of.story.

I agree with you on FlashForward...it really haven't given me a reason to continue watching. Fiennes a terrible, terrible actor...he looks and acts like Cristopher Lambert...and that's not a goood thing. Modern Family is my favorite new comedy show...the dad in the nuclear family is hilarious... he's easily the best part of the show. I saw one and a half episodes of Cougar Town and that was enough...can't stand Cox in it...really annoying cliched character, and the series tries too hard and fails...

Whatever the reason, no Vincent D'Onofrio, no Criminal Intent as far as I'm concerned. I started watching because of him, when he goes, so do I.

I will not watch Law & Order Criminal Intent without Vincent D'Onofrio. USA Network indicated LOCI was too dark in comparison to their other cutesy shows. If they want to turn CI into just another of their shows that you can't remember five minutes after you watch it, who needs it. Besides, I loved the Goren character precisely because he did have a dark side and you never knew quite what to expect from him.

The cancellation of Southland (after filming six episodes that have not aired) just shows how foolish these millionaire execs are. They bring back a show because it had decent ratings and received good reviews. For the next season, they start up two (similar) medical shows, both of which must have a larger budget, but do poorer critically (not that that matters) and perhaps worse in the ratings.

I will not support Criminal Intent without Vincent D'Onofrio. Apparently his character is too intense and not "light" enough with the newfound direction of the USA Network. Criminal Intent has always been a "thinking person's" show. Once Vincent leaves, the "fluffier" storylines will begin. The way the actors and fans were treated in this matter was disrespectful and unjust.

I will cease watching USA Network completely with the departure of D'Onofrio's Goren, and many are leaving with me. USA should reconsider this decision.

Parks and Recreation is really growing on me, they had their funniest episode yet yesterday. Ron was really hilarious, when Tom revealed he's had two wives with the same name and deadpanned turned to the camera and said "both of them bitches" i bursted out laughing

I think USA missed the point about the difference in ratings on LOCI epsidoes...many watched to support the WHOLE SHOW. We are a loyal bunch - we were afraid Jeff would fail - as he has before - and wanted to show our support for the show.

Regardless of the WHY - once Goren and Eames are gone - LOCI ceaces to be the same show and I, like many, will be turning off not only that show but USA. I would say I would turn off NBC too but it looks like it is shutting itself down.

Without Goren and Eames...its just another cop show. Bobby Goren made the show...he was unique. Love him or hate him...it will never be the same without him.

Although a lot of people have responded here, I know lots of people who HATE Goren. No kidding. My GF is a big fan of his and watches CI mostly for him, but that has led to discussions with people and they don't like Goren at all.

Of course, I can't imagine JG's character is someone they would like either as he's easily as quirky.

Modern Family is a GREAT show. It's suprisingly good.

Look, if I wanted to eat a peanut butter sandwich every day, I would, but I don't want to, because let's face it, it gets boring, and so don't force fed me with this "fluff" crap. While it is the network's choice to alter their programming as they see fit, not offering variety is, as they will soon find out, be detrimental. I realize we are in the midst of suffering a bad economy, poor housing market and unemployment, but, all the "blue sky" and "popcorn" (their buzzwords) won't remove those realities. And, if LO: CI is considered "dark" by comparison then maybe NBCU has decided for us that we should all live in their fantasy world. If I wanted that I could go pitch a tent down in the heart of Disney World and hug Mickey Mouse all day. The bottom line is that a disservice was done to the cast and show, and is not fair to a loyal legion of fans who have followed for 8 years now. We do not feel as if a 2 hour season opener, in which Vincent will exit, will properly satisfy all of the storylines and that instead a full Season 9 would be more appropriate in doing it justice. The rumblings have been that it is a money issue and coincedently the coffers flowed wide open when Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni wanted more, and received, what they asked for. Given that three of the major key players are departing it is highly suspect that the "budget" (NBCU is worth 35 billion, that's with a "b") didn't allow them full salaries, and, the stockholders are holding the strings. This is not about Jeff Goldblum, hell I'm glad he has a job when jobs are scarce, but to try and revamp the show when all of the established characters are leaving is too little too late. We should have seen this coming with the poor excuse for a Season 8 that had uninspiring scripts, continuity problems and episodes shown out of sequence. Frankly, I don't know how they are going to rebound from that. No matter, once they leave, we will leave and so the ratings will tell the tale. I'm thinking on the plummet down that USA Network and NBCU will be best served and cushioned by all that "fluff" and then they will know exactly what "reality" is.

Modern Family has been the best new show IMO, but last nights Community was excellent, and I see the show hanging around for awhile.

Southland being canceled is a damn shame. This really could have been the next great cop show. At least the comfort in this news is that the creator is trying to shop it to other networks. Methinks USA or TNT would be a great place for it.

I don't know anyone who will watch LO:CI without Vincent D'Onofrio. WE watched Noth because there was a danger Vincent would not be able to continue without an alternate cast, and I would imagine the same is true of Goldblum (though as I can't stand the "actor", I wouldn't watch under any circumstances). But it was Vincent who held up the ratings, and he and Erbe made the show. There is no point in continuing without them.

You asked if the fans would stop watching L&OCI if Vincent D'Onofrio left by choice. Yes we would.Vincent IS L&OCI. If he wants out of the show, then God bless him. I know we will see him at the theaters or on tv.The show is over as far as we're concerned when he leaves.
We are triple D's Diehard D'Onofrio Dames or Dudes. Our loyalty is to Vincent.
Thank you,
Sandy Jordan

Please include me with the many who will leave when Vincent D'Onofrio goes. Vincent, along with Rene Balcer, created Bobby Goren, and Vincent made the character his own. There will never be another Bobby Goren (although there are a lot of wannabe's), and without Bobby Goren, it will not be Criminal Intent. Vincent D'Onofrio MADE that show.
